Crack below two windows

Hi,

I am planning on putting an offer on a 20y old house and during viewing I discovered two vertical cracks below the windows, in both bedrooms.
While the best course of actions is to pay for a structural engineer I would be grateful to hear your thoughts about the pictures attached.

Thanks!

Impossible to say with any accuracy based on these photos alone. Could just be in the plaster rather than structural. Is it showing same or similar on the outside? If it is then that’s a worry.

The house is rendered and couldn't find the same on the exterior.

Hairline cracks in plaster are pretty normal. Although those cracks look a bit more than hairline, especially the first one.

If you get an offer accepted, get a proper survey done before spending any more money on searches etc.

It might be a sign of a bigger problem and it might not be. Only a proper survey can tell you that.

We have cracks identical on all our windows (honestly we have the same curtains and I thought for a second that 1st photo was our house), they are just plaster cracks from contraction/expansion.

I would still have it checked in person not just my word from a photo but I don't think its something to panic over.

Movement/subsidence cracks show more on the OUTSIDE of a building.

Thanks to all who answered.
In the end I just withdrawn my offer, there are other houses on the market and didn't want to spent time and money for structural surveys on such a young house, in an area known for high risk for subsidence.
