Carpet gap

Hi. We have a fireplace in our lounge that previous owners put in. It’s a real gas fire that we havnt used for many years. I like having the fireplace as a focal point but are considering taking it out because we don’t use it and will free up wall space. However we really don’t want to replace the carpet as it’s still in good condition and was expensive. We did have a mat made up with the offcuts at the time so was wondering if we could get the gap that would be left by the removal of the fireplace filled in with the rug. I appreciate that the pile might it be quite the same but we would put furniture over it although it wouldnt cover it completely. Is this doable ?

Carpet fitters join carpets all the time, but usually when it’s laid at the same time with the pile going the same way. The colour may not match completely due to fading/pile lying the wrong direction, but it is doable with carpet joining tape.

Thank you. The gap wouldn’t be completely on show possibly have a side table or sofa on top of it but obviously would need to cover the gap. Just really don't want to replace the carpet

Yes, if the rug is big enough then they can join it.

Yes, it’s totally possible.
