Kitchen revamp in 3 weeks; so excited

We put in our kitchen 25 years ago when re renovated our at-the-time new house. When it came to the kitchen we had already spent our budget and so our lovely builder said he would make us a cheap MDF kitchen that would do until we could afford to replace it. Well, here we are 25 years later 😂.
so we have found a very nice kitchen maker who will use our existing carcasses as much as possible but do new doors, beautiful drawers, pull out wire baskets self closing drawers etc etc
So now he needs decisions on colours. We have a gorgeous polished concrete floor. I’m keeping the black granite on the peninsula unit and replacing the tiled worktop with a brushed stainless steel.
the walls are Farrow and Ball pointing ( a soft white) so it’s all very monochrome at the moment. This is my inspiration.
The yellow looks gorgeous here but on the website I hate it
The plan is to paint the units in the peninsula charcoal and the side units yellow.
anyone know any nice yellow?

This is how it looks on the website. I’m going to get sample pots tomorrow but I’d love any ideas

Yes, I will not be having that… or the dog unfortunately 😂😂.
I think that’s Farrow and Ball land 😜

It will be awful but worth it when done
I really like the yellow but wouldn't be brave enough
Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly

Ferretedaway · 05/05/2025 22:14

That’s exciting .

I’ve been investigating yellows but settled on F&B French grey and lichen for my flat in the end . But the F&B yellows I like are
dayroom yellow
yellow ground
Sudbury yellow

so much depends on how much light you get, what direction the room faces etc. I bought A5 test cards from eBay and moved them into different parts of the room and what the colours looked like when it was dark. The sample cards worked out cheaper than the sample pots . It’s such a difficult decision. Good luck

Twodogsonthecouch · 05/05/2025 22:33

@Ferretedaway interesting. Yellow Ground is one of the colours I saved as an alternative

I love mustardy yellows and I love this!

Twodogsonthecouch · 05/05/2025 22:49

Thanks @PrincessOfPreschool. I know it’ll split opinions but I feel as the rest of the room is monochrome the yellow will be a splash of colour

Stainless steel work surface??? Don’t do it! Marks like mad. Anything without a smooth base - it marks. Even plates and mugs mark it. Avoid.

Not a fan of the yellow. However F&B have a yellow painted kitchen in Hay with Pointing walls. I’d bin the grey and go with the F&B inspiration.

Ferretedaway · 06/05/2025 07:21

TizerorFizz. Hay is a lovely muted yellow. OP have you thought of sampling a more muted yellow.

im working round a lot of grey - sofa, kitchen and bathroom flooring and bathroom tiles (rental so not worth investigating in new flooring etc and can’t afford to anyhow), but F&B French grey and lichen work beautifully with grey and I eventually shifted from yellows to greens. I can’t paint kitchen units but will be painting the walls . Bedroom and bathroom walls in lichen. Will you be getting the F&B colour matched in a cheaper version? I am, and hoping it looks as pigmented as the real thing. On the F&B website there are French grey and I think a Lichen kitchen if you wanted to consider it.

Twodogsonthecouch · 06/05/2025 07:22

Thanks @TizerorFizz I’ve heard that around the stainless steel alright. The peninsula unit, where we are keeping the existing granite worktop, is where we do all the food prep and where the sinks are so I have thought about it and think it will be ok. It’s basically around the hob and under the kettle/ toaster.
I think I’m set on the colour scheme. I like it and think it will look well with the polished concrete floors. It’s really shades I’m interested in.
my current kitchen, which I’ve had for 25 years, is painted also and I’ve repainted it a few times over the years when I got sick of it so there’s always that option if necessary 😊

I will definitely look at Hay, thanks a million for the suggestions. Looking forward to more ideas if anyone has some inspiration

@Twodogsonthecouch SS won’t be good around the hob. It’s not food prep that’s the issue. It’s putting anything on it like a saucepan or even plates. It scratches. We’ve just been in a swish Airbnb flat with a SS work surface. Even the mugs near the kettle marked it. You might not care in an industrial setting but for a home it’s a disaster. I just used kitchen paper to wipe it down. You cannot stop it marking and we didn’t even do any cooking!

GasPanic · 06/05/2025 11:43

Glad you are missing the dog shower. That makes no sense to me at all.

The first thing most dogs do after getting wet is shake themselves. Which would send water off the dog all over the kitchen, food and surfaces.

I agree. We have a stainless steel cooker hob and we regret it so much. It looked marked and worn really quickly. If we had known was stainless steel was like we would have never have chosen it.

I love the India Yellow 💛 but I'm probably biased as we painted the living room of a previous house the same colour.

It is fairly dark in real life, but we like dark, earthy colours so it suited us. I do like Sudbury and Hay too.

We actually planned to paint our kitchen cabinets yellow in our new-to-us house and got as far as buying samples of F&B India Yellow and Sudbury Yellow. In the end we decided on a completely different vibe and have chosen Edward Bulmer Jonquil for the cabinets (our walls are Edward Bulmer Pompadour).

A relative painted their kitchen (walls, not cabinets) F&B Babouche, but that's too in your face for me!

I think it's going to look amazing @Twodogsonthecouch - I hope you come back and share your finished kitchen.

PrincessOfPreschool · 06/05/2025 14:28

We have a shop near us that has F & B colours each painted onto a rectangular bit of canvas so it's easy to see the real colour without buying loads of pricey samples. It's a proper interior design shop so with wallpaper books etc.

I think any yellow will go with black and grey so it's whatever yellow you like and goes with the vibe of your house. I don't really like buttery or sunny or lemony yellows but mustard is one of my fav colours.

C8H10N4O2 · 06/05/2025 15:41

I want to know the backstory of a dog/toddler shower in the middle of the kitchen 😂

Are you really wedded to F&B paints? Especially in a kitchen.

Little Greene Oakapple or Benjamin Moore Golden Garden are close to Hay and I’ve seen a similar shade from Dulux (but possibly in their colour matching range so would be a number).

SingaSongToMe · 06/05/2025 15:54

Yellow Ground is beautiful, a cheerful, sunny egg yolk sort of colour- but I have found it really doesn’t photograph well! So IMO, that one is definitely worth buying a tester.

TizerorFizz · 06/05/2025 16:04

F&B have shops with all their colours on cards. Getting testers for your room, in your light and on your doors makes a huge difference. It’s hardly ££££ and if it avoids a mistake, it’s worth it!
