Vaillant or Worcester Bosch System boiler?

Does anyone have any experience with either brand of system boilers in particular? These seem to be the two most highly rated brands.
@pigletjohn if you have any kind words of wisdom too would be appreciated.

Both were recommended by our heating engineer when we had a new boiler in old house in 2009. We chose a Worcester Bosch. Didn't have any problems before we moved in 2014.

New house had another Worcester Bosch installed in 2010. Had it regularly serviced and only had a seal start to go, picked up by a service on last service which cost £8. Engineer (same as old house) reckons it still looks in really good condition and could easily last 25 years.

Mind you, anything is better than the Ideal boiler we originally had in our old house which broke down ten times in ten years. Ideal wouldn't even do a premium rate call out when our engineer gave up on it.

Worcester

I had a Vaillant combi installed in my last house in 2009. Between then and when I sold earlier this year, it gave brilliant service - only once had to call a repair man for a minor fault (water leaking). Had to have new system boiler in the new place so I've gone Vaillant again because I totally trust them.

I think WB are very good too, though. I think they are both excellent brands and you won't go wrong with either.

We had a Valliant installed in 2021 to replace the original 20 year old boiler. Massively increased the water pressure in the showers and had no issues with it. Having said that, as per pp, both solid brands and either should be fine!

Valiant have less moving parts, lower servicing costs, and are generally better made in my experience.

GasPanic · 06/05/2025 14:11

I wanted WB but ended up with Valiant due to covid.

No issues with it so far. It's a boiler and works fine.

I think more of a question is whether it is worth getting a WB/Valiant over something lower cost, whether it is worth the extra price.

My guess is that it is, because these days a lot of the cost is in the installation rather than the actual boiler itself.

I am not a gasman but they seem to be some of the best-thought of brands. I actually bought a Viessmann 100 conventional because it is very simple, very small, and has a stainless heat exchanger. Some people complain that spare parts are not stocked in every high street, but since it has not needed any in 18 years I have not found that a problem and will get another one if it pegs out before I do.

PigletJohn · 06/05/2025 20:42

My mistake, it did need a part, a rubber non-return flap on the air intake. It was fitted free under the extended guarantee and the new design part is presumably improved since it has not got stuck again in the following 16 years.

menopausalfart · 06/05/2025 20:58

I put in a Worcester Bosch 6 years ago. No complaints at all.

Polaopposite · 06/05/2025 21:25

Thanks everyone. Appreciate all the replies. Seems like they are quite similar.

I’ve lived in many, many rental properties - never had any issues with places that had either brand. I now own a Vaillant but would be happy with either.

TimeForATerf · 06/05/2025 21:29

My plumber/heating engineer has only ever recommended Vaillant, has been fitting and servicing them for as long as I’ve known him which is over 20 years. I’m on my second, I only replaced the first as I had a new kitchen and it was behind the old units. Had it 14 years no major problems.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/05/2025 23:22

We had a WB put in 11 years ago. It's been no problem at all.

CrystalSingerFan · 06/05/2025 23:24

My current house has a Worcester Combi boiler that has been fine. Easy to program too. My future forever home has a Vaillant that I haven't lived with but seems fine. BUT my vendor got some bonkers Intelligent Thermostat that talks to the Vaillant and it is the worst user interface for controlling a heating system I've ever seen. I have the manual. I have tried. My brother has tried. Be careful and make sure you're happy with the controllability.
