Squeaky floor boards

What can be done to fix … assuming we will to lift and replace floor boards in some places, as these are significant squeaks. I think it will be a big job but who do we ask to quote… a builder? A joiner?
Thanks for any experience.

The squeak is caused by the nail being loose and creating movement. The most effective way to stop it is by using screws instead. However make sure you use ones that are long enough, but also not too big that they split the joists.

Edit - my ex did mine so it depends if you feel comfortable doing DIY or not.

My mums house is like that, she has never bothered to get it done but i’d have to. It was a new build 30yrs ago, and you can hear which room people are in upstairs via the squeaks! I would get a handy man in, will need screwing down. Guess fairly easy to do yourself I guess.

I had same problem and I had a plumber round to fix it. But was also told to put talcum powder down to stop the squeaking.

Be careful with thr DIY option. I have terrible squeaky floors, I laid new boards down and asked the builder to sort it. He said unless it's clear where pipes and cables run there's a risk that the screw will go through something. So you need to be super clear where your pipework etc is
