Single story extension - what should I have?

I’m having one built but I’ve no idea about design. I know I want French doors and an open style ceiling with a Skylight. I’m thinking of a gas fired wood burner style fire for coziness in the winter. But beyond that I’ve no idea.
It needs to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and I’ve no idea about lighting.
Any do’s and dont’s welcome.

What is the purpose of the extension, and how big is it?

I think it’s 7m2, and it’s an extra lounge. It’s going to be a sort of summer room with lots of windows looking into the garden, but also for me to have as my lounge when DH is watching football.

Get an architect so that it will look nice and not just a box…. Which is what a builder will build.

what is your budget like?

insulate a lot.

pitched roof lights are nice and make the space seem bigger.

have a patio for the French doors to open on to..

Have a window not just patio doors, so that you can open a window. Sometimes you want to open a window just a crack to let fresh air in, but you don't want a door open, e.g.middle of winter.

There will be lots of windows, I want it to be almost like you’re sitting in the garden. But it needs to be warm in the winter

Think about lighting! We did a similar one and i dod not put in a main ceiling light which was a mistake. Also do underfloor heating if you can so no radiators. Also consider how you will use the doors, ours has become like a back door and people leave shoes there so I should have had storage perhaps.
