Right move listing am I being ridiculous?

Settle a discussion between me and my husband.
I said that if a right move listing doesn’t have a picture of the front of the house as the main picture I usually scroll past. e.g if the first pic is of the garden, inside of the house, or drone shot.
He said I’m being ridiculous. He’s probably right but got me thinking as we’re going to sell our house soon what stops you clicking on a listing and what is the ideal first picture?

It demonstrates a lack of care and attention that may manifest itself in bigger issues later on, so not ridiculous. It's a bit like EA's who cannot spell accommodation. The most important word in their business, and with the availability of spell checkers, make the error one that cannot be ignored.

You'd dismiss a house because the EA can't spell a word? That isn't ridiculous it's barking mad!!!

Lack of care and attention. I don't want to have to rely on people like that. You have been warned.

Some people like to think they're being clever by refusing to look at listings that have the 'wrong' first photo/contain spelling mistakes/are missing the floor plan etc. That's fine if there are dozens of the type of house you want readily available. Or you could just be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I've bought a good few houses and have found that the most professional listings with the best photos and floor plans usually get the highest prices, naturally. But the listings from lazy EAs that don't grab attention, can actually be great bargains for a buyer.

Cautious rather than clever. And I'm fine missing out on the odd home. It's more important that the agent is professional and executes professionally.

Would you trust a solicitor who couldn't spell and didn't bother to spell-check, or a heart surgeon who was dyslexic with their numbers and didn't get them checked? No saying either would screw you over accidentally, but why take a chance.

An EA doesn't have much anything like as much impact on your house purchase as the other examples you quote.

You've never heard any stories about EA's f*&king up a transaction?

Well I haven't actually. It's not very common. They actually don't have a lot of influence in my experience.

It's not common. Most are professional. But some can't be arsed to spell-check the most important word in their business. And I can't be arsed to risk dealing with them. It's their choice.

This is a typical example of EA whinging reaction to being asked to fix a small mistake. Just get on and do it. Don't kick and scream and whinge.

It means that the front of the house probably isn't very attractive. If that's a deal breaker for you, then you are being sensible. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

The EA is basically just an introductory service for buyers. Solicitors will control the transaction.
Sellers need a good EA, buyers needn't give a shit. You don't even have to talk to them after solicitors are instructed.

I want to see all of it. Not showing the front would make me bypass it. I want to see how it fits into the street. (If that makes sense to you)

I mean, it's almost certain you will see all of it before you buy it. Usually from Streetview first.

Viviennemary · 06/05/2025 16:58

Usually because it doesn't look great from the front. I still look but my mind would be already made up as no.

I agree. Even if a kitchen is amazing if the house isn't attractive from the outside I won't be buying it. If the house looks nice I don't care too much about kitchens, etc which can be changed.

Agree. You can fit a new kitchen but if the house is an ugly architectural style I would not find it homely.

BruceAndNosh · 16/05/2025 14:52

OP certainly won't be long interested in the property which has this as the lead photo!

Haha what an enticing photo - who wouldn't want to view a house with a front door as special as that?

JustMyView13 · 19/05/2025 14:03

To some extent, I agree. But if the main picture is of a beautiful kitchen then I'll definitely look to see what the rest of the house is like.
