This is my sitting room. I've just repaintedand i love how bright it is now.

The wood floor is new, as is the rest of the decor.

I'm not feeling the rug. Do I leave it, change it or take it up?

The footstool thing. Do I leave it, recover it or swap out for a coffee table?

The beige sofa is ridiculously comfy. As of next month I will have my 5yr and 2 yr grandchildren living with me for a year ( and their parents ) so don't want to invest in a new one until after that. I'm not a fan of throws as they just get bundled up. Do you think those sofa covers ever look good? If so, what colour do you think?

Thank you.

The thing that jumped out at me is the alcove behind the lamp. It looks to be painted white? You've already got two paint colours and the wallpaper, so to me it adds to the feeling of the room not being cohesive. Could you paint it the same colour as the sofa wall? Agree with pps that you need to tie the colours of the room together with accessories etc.

Might be nice to paint it in the same colour as the feature wall, turn the console 45 degrees to sit across the space with the lamp behind it. Not quite sure what colour the console is? is it blue? If so perhaps paint it a light green colour that was a whitened version of the feature paint so it ties in but isn't the dark green.

Yes it's currently white as I ran out of the lighter colour so I need to go get a small pot made up.

It's actually grey, so paint it a lighter version of the alcove green?

Yes to painting it green - you could just get some of the feature paint and dilute it down with white until you get a light green you like. I'd put it at an angle across the alcove diagonally with the lamp behind and see how you like it. What would be even better is if you have an armchair then put the console elsewhere and the armchair in the alcove with a small side table for a cup of tea - perfect place to read

I've moved it around and taken the rug up.

I used to have a wingback chair but it felt really cramped although with the dresser this way around I think it would actually be ok.

Other side of the room.

The grey sofa is actually a really good sofa bed. I bought it half price as it was off the shop floor. I know the grey doesn't go but it's useful to have. I don't really know what to do about the colour.
