New to London- can you tell me about good areas to live in Stoke Newington?

Hi all, I keep hearing that Stoke Newington is a great place to live for families- I'm new to London. Could anyone give me specific streets/ areas that are good places to look- convenient and accessible to busses & places a mom might want to hang out? I'd love input- also if there are areas that are not so good, I'd like to know that too.
The obvious best idea is for me to go walk around & explore myself, which I plan to do, but I'm due in 4 weeks and have been flat-searching non-stop in other areas. So at this point, if I can narrow my search and minimize my legwork that would be so nice!

Depends on your situation - do you need to be in good catchment etc. Areas around Clissold Park a great. We used to be near Manor House - the Finsbury Park tiangle - Gloucester Drive, Queens Drive etc - beautiful Victorian properties - 5 min walk to MH tube (Pic line), 10 min to FP tube (Vic, Pic lines), 341 into Waterloo, 141 into City - lots of other buses. Castle for climbing, aqua centre, Clissold Park with deer park, aviary, tennis courts; the newly reopened leisure centre, Farmers market at William Patten school on Sat, choice of Islington restaurants, the list goes on

Really? I've never rated Stoke Newington AT ALL.

Winchmore Hill MILES better. Also Finchley is good. SEveral stations linked by Northern Line. Lots of buses that reach most areas and into town.

I think you want to talk to Bundle - why don't you send her a CAT (like a PM) by finding a post by her and clicking on the envelope in the bar above her post

thanks, all. I guess I should look around Clissold Park? maggiethecat, your area sounds like it was ideal.
I have also seen listings near Listria Park- anyone have input on that?
soapbox: thank's for the tip, I'll look for Bundle.

I've only lived in Stokie as a young free and single hedonistic pre-child person but it is a cool place to live.

SN Church Street is the nicer end and definately keep to the west of the A10 IMO.

Clissold Park is nice.

TBH tho, I think there are nicer places in London to live if you have kids.

We're in West London and it's a great place to live with kids. Lots to do, easily commutable into the city and probably on a par with rent/house prices.

Plus, we have a really great MN local crowd where I have made some good friends over the last 20 months.
