Moving from the NE to the SE

I'm relocating from Sunderland to the South East and am looking for any general dos and don'ts when it comes to dealing with removal firms / relocation companies. I have not used such a service before and wonder, before contacting them, if there are any hacks or tricks anyone can share to keep things as cost-effective as possible (without it being such a bad service that my belongings are broken) as my expenses are already ramped up with the North to South move. What I'm concerned about is being provided a quote and then upsold on extras or being trapped by a company that has all of my belongings and is demanding extra payment.

If anyone thinks I should pack my own things or just leave everything to the company let me know - any heads up about what service to go for would also be appreciated. Again, I've not done this before so am feeling very anxious about the whole move, thanks.

Getting personal recommendations is always a good idea if you can, or at the very least reading several current reviews. We had a very good removals experience (though it wasn’t as far as you’re going) and they did some of the packing for us - kitchen, dining and living rooms mainly. Had no problems or breakages and they were very professional and reasonably priced.

Good luck with your move!

If it’s a big move I would pay extra for the packing service. They do a really good job and it saves lots of time & stress.

You don’t need to accept any extras you don’t want though. Or worry about them demanding extra payment on the day. I’ve never heard of a company doing that and I’ve moved a lot within the SE.

Just get 3 quotes and take it from there.
