Or too small?

Would a kitchen island work here?

I think really you need at least 1m clear round an island, so assuming your worktop is the standard 60ish cm deep, it would be okay - but it might feel a bit tight where that door opens inwards. Could you switch to a pocket/sliding door?

Also think about whether you want seats/stools at the island, and making sure you have enough clearance for someone to sit at least 50cm out without a door opening into their back.

It works in mine!

It would be more for some extra storage type space rather than stools to sit around (the dining area goes further than the photo shows). The second door opening is a utility room so closed most of the time

If it's mainly for storage, would you not be better putting floor to ceiling cupboards between the 2 doors on the left of the picture?

Balhama · 20/04/2025 19:40

There’s not enough space there really

Kitchen islands only really work when the space is massive. Otherwise it would be better to invest in a great dining table and chairs.

TheCurious0range · 28/06/2025 19:25

Peninsula? It would separate kitchen and dining

Fedupoftheshits · 28/06/2025 19:30

I was also going to say peninsula too, I think this would give you the extra storage, options for stools if you ever want them and it wouldn’t feel too tight.

We have a kitchen island and although I love it, it becomes an absolute dumping ground for any old shite that the kids or DH brings home (aware that this is a me problem)
