Shower room underfloor heating

We're revamping our shower room and are thinking of a tile floor throughout and so underfloor heating.

Can it be fitted under the shower area as well or would we have to have a shower tray?

I can't find anything obvious online so all info gratefully received thankyou.

So you are thinking of a tiled wet room? They do use a former underneath the tiles to give the shape.

You don't have heated floors under things like shower trays as the heat cant distribute equally and I assume it could break? There also could be an issue with electrics so close to water? You can have a tiled shower base that matches the floor though even if you don't have a walk in shower. We do and I love it.

I have underfloor heating in the shower room but never have it on as it’s an extra expense I can live without. Have a shower tray but would imagine it would be fine under tiled wet room as the drainage is separate.

We have a tiled floor in our ensuite and no, underfloor heating doesn’t go under our shower. We have a Bette Floor shower “floor” and electric UFH really is not needed under it. A small leak would be dangerous I think. Technically, you can have UFH with tiles in a shower but I dislike grout in a shower base. Maybe a ready made ceramic floor would work but we’ve never had any mould or concerns as we have a warm bathroom.

Thankyou starpatch, I was thinking more of how cold the tiles might be, but thinking about it more I can see how impractical it would be.

I've only ever come across a heated bathroom floor once in a hotel and my thinking's all woolly about it.

@Middletoleft What works for us is the bathroom has UFH but not under the shower. We have it in 4 bathrooms elsewhere and again, not under showers/bath. Do always have a heated towel rad and you can control the heating so it’s always warm in winter. It’s important to think about the shower floor though. Ceramic tiles are not used much in the actual shower these days due to cleaning and you must build to allow good drainage. The shower area cannot be flat. Water must exit via the drain. This is a lot easier to achieve with a ready made shower floor.

The tiles in the bottom of the shower warm up very quickly once the shower is running
