Gas hob not working, any ideas?

Can't light any of the rings on our hob. There's a clicking sound from ignition and a very slight gas smell from one of the rings afterwards if I smell close up (would normally be able to smell if not ignited straight away. Have taken the rings apart, checked gas tap in right direction and nothing has tripped.

Any ideas?

Mine has never worked since moving in. I light it with a match.

Sometimes taking the rings apart and cleaning them helps, sometimes I think the gas can get a bit blocked.
However, I think I would call a gas safe engineer to be on the safe side if that doesn’t work.

I give the rings a wiggle and it usually works

it sounds like you need to change the battery for the ignition. Sometimes you need to unscrew the ignition button, but in some cases it is somewhere else - mine is below the oven, at the very bottom.

Is your gas actually working ?

You might get a slight smell of gas from residual gas in the pipes, but it may be that the main supply is off for some reason, a leak or fix somewhere maybe ?

Thanks for your replies. Have done what I can within my means, can't trace where the ignition battery is and supplier's manual isn't helpful. It's a metre or so on from the gas boiler (which is nearer meter), and that is certainly heating water which is more important.

We're approx six weeks off a new kitchen, so I think we'll try and make do without the hob, although I do a lot of cooking on it. DH doesn't seem to care, so he can come up with some all oven options😂.

If you are having a new kitchen fitted treat yourself now to a one or two ring plug in induction hob - then you'll be able to cook whilst your kitchen is being fitted too! (If your pans aren't induction compatible then get an electric one instead.) Our 3 week new kitchen installation took 16 weeks (we were 14 weeks without water, hob or oven) so it's best to be prepared! I was so traumatised by it all that nearly 20 years later I'm only just contemplating getting quotes to replaced the crap Magnet installed! (And I'll never use them again!)
