Door reversal

Hello!
My new house doesn’t have a dining room door - the frame is there and the door strike but it’s obvious the door was taken out to create more space in the kitchen. The door would have originally opened into the kitchen, I would like to hang a door to open the other way, into the dining room instead.
How much of a job is this? Will the door frame need to be replaced? Is it a carpenter I need?
I have no idea as you can tell! Thanks!

You’re basically going to have to reverse everything. So take off hinges and fill / smooth with wood filler. You’ll then need to cut the new hinges into the opposite side of door / frame for which you will need a sharp blade and a carpenters chisel set. You’ll then maybe need to remove and replace the thin strips of wood running around the centre of the jamb - the bits that stop the door opening the other way. You’d then need to put the handle and lock mechanism if present on the opposite side.

I’ve done it many times and as with many things in life it’s not a hard job if you know what you’re doing. There’s bound to be a YouTube video or two that will show you and you can then assess as to whether it’s something you’re happy to take on or not.

(If keeping the opening on the same side of the frame then you are basically doing pretty much the same but just moving the hinges over. Hard to explain. YouTube is your friend)

Yes, not difficult. Just an hour or so for a carpenter.
