Experience of buying a house

Hi all.
currently DH and DD (10months) living with in-laws home with BIL.
It is a lot living with extended family especially being postpartum and wanting to be with DD and DH only. It not our forever plan to stay here mainly financial reasons and then falling pregnant we thought it would be best to stay put. But now I’m going back to work soon and we are in a better financial position to get things moving I’m desperate to have my own space for my little family. I want to make a good decision about where we move and not blinded by me looking for a quick escape plan.

tell me is it a hard process buying a house? Any advice about what to look for in a house or area? Any hidden processes with brokers or estate agents?

thanks

It’s not a particularly hard process other than the stress that can come with it. Finding a house can be tricky depending on how popular the area you want to live in is.

do you have a deposit because you won’t be able to buy anything unless you do. Personally I’d start with finances. Find out what you can borrow and then start looking at areas.

Yes I’m going back to work soon which will help and add to our existing pot for our deposit. Thank you

Do you have any savings?

Speak to a broker and try and work out how much you can borrow. Do you have any idea of where you want to live? I’m continuously on rightmove.

What is your pot?

Definitely wait until in employment as this will increase the amount you can borrow

Once you are settled in your job ring Town and Country to see how much you can borrow. You will then know what to look for. Try and buy in the best area you can but try not to overstretch yourself. You need to be able to manage the repayments. Try and get a repayment mortgage.

Then you can start looking. Ask around for a good conveyancing solicitor.

It's not hard but it is time consuming and stressful. But as you are first time buyers you will be like gold dust.

How exciting!

We found the Home Owners Alliance website to be really helpful when we were moving, lots of useful advice from people who know.
