Cork flooring

Considering using cork flooring in a utility room/boot room. It’s not cheap (which surprised me) but people also keep turning their noses up!

I like things that are a bit quirky, but wanted to check if there is a practical reason not to use it?

and if you have it, any pics appreciated for inspiration!

We laid it in our kitchen several houses ago.
after a few coats of varnish it was very hard wearing.

I love it, fond memories of having it in the kitchen growing up.

You are more likely to trip when the corners peel up!

i used a grey cork flooring from Bricoflor in our office which is a click cork - warm to walk on and sound absorbing- there are loads of colours and patterns available on there - they sent me various samples - its nothing like the old school orange tiles!

I've got cork flooring in my bathroom. I love it. It's practical, easy to fit yourself and eco friendly. I've also used it in the kitchen at a previous house.

I loved my cork flooring. Properly installed and sealed, it's tough as old boots. Insulating and not cold underfoot. Less slippery than vinyl or wood, so if you have animals, it's easier underpaw for them too.

I've only used it in a downstairs loo and they were cheap £1 land tiles, but I loved them and plan to use cork again for the whole of our downstairs. Well, at least in the hallway and kitchen. They were warm and soft to walk on and nice and easy to clean, and to lay.

Ooh, this is an interesting thread! Do you have to varnish cork flooring or is it ok to leave as is? We need flooring in our bathroom and I like the idea of this ..

We’ve had ours in the living room for 17 years and it’s only now beginning to show signs of wear. We probably should have varnished it.

it was great for our DS to learn to walk on and for playing on as it feels warmer and softer than tiles and is just as easy to keep clean.

Lots of colours to choose from too.

The ones I bought had a coating on them, but you can buy them uncoated and then you need to use a varnish or sealant on them.

iamnotalemon · 02/04/2025 12:44

I’m not a fan of it as it looks like the room hasn’t been finished and you’re waiting for carpet.

That’s really helpful, thank you!

My mum has had 'Corka' cork lamiinate in her whole downstairs for 3 years. Its really lovely, and is hard wearing and lovely to walk on barefoot. also great sound absorption - rather than echoey hard floors can be

We have put cork tile in our downstairs loo, and once they have good sealant on them they are also really hard wearing. Unlike Corka they are about the cheapest floor you can get! from https://spduk.co.uk/ - we sealed it with

My friend had cork in her previous, very upscale kitchen. She loved it and I thought it looked great. I will consider it when we do our kitchen
