To ask to see your kitchen please?

Or is that really inappropriate Grin

We've just had an offer accepted, and the potential new home needs a new kitchen. It's not a forever home to put the forever kitchen in, but it's a half million do-er upper property, in a pretty village. It's a long way from Clive Christian, but equally not IKEA either.

While we wait for the paperwork side of things, I'm trying to budget for the refurb. The kitchen is 20ft long, 11ft wide , and has a 10ft by 10ft utility attached through a door to the left. Separate dining room.

Can I see your kitchens please, in similar spaces, or perhaps a comment as to who you used, why you chose them, and how much they cost? I guess anything installed in last 3yrs is still recent enough to be comparable?

Thank you in advance...

First 2 images are our kitchen now. Kitchen was put in 4 years ago.

Probably not everyone’s cup of tea but we love it. The last image is how it looked when we bought the kitchen in bits. It cost 150 quid from a charity furniture shop and my dad completely revamped and fixed it up. All in all think we spent about 1500 on new worktops, new appliances, paint and new handles etc.

We were renovating our house which was so old and needed so much work there just simply wasn’t the budget for a new kitchen!!

Bloody hell! You got that out of a charity shop!!!

It's very close to what I have in mind, although probably not wooden work tops.

On the basis we don't have the skill set to even do that, let alone find a kitchen from a charity shop, does anyone else have that sort of kitchen and their cost to share?

Look on the Houzz app for 100s of pictures of possible kitchens. Also n Pinterest

Just came on here for a nose, as we're about to have our kitchen done up.

Sorry, but I'd avoid Wickes. Read the reviews. They totally messed up with us, even the first appointment and we had to go back in. Kept saying we needed to go in and sort things like finance out and tiles/flooring order, got in there and told us both sorted nearer the time. We were told a wait time of five months, given one of nine months. Complained and our fitter changed to eight months. He apparently left due to mismanagement, phoned and told us as he didn't trust them. We waited three weeks, no update and they'd clearly done nothing when we went into cancel (at which point they were trying to assure us they could easily get done in the summer - a year+ since agreeing).

Local chap did it within three months, just £200 more. No messing around and he did it well.

We've gone with magnet. They can supply you with 3d images if that helps. Smaller kitchen than yours, but it's costing just under £6k for 12 units (three corner), cooker, hob and extractor. Fitter £3k. Tiles and flooring will be approx £750. Need a price from tiler, flooring fitter and electrician. Think the flooring will take cost about £300 extra to fit, as he's already doing downstairs cloakroom for £100 and he'll do at the same time. We've had white, wood effect and currently have cream (which looks yellowy in our kitchen!). Could get a sage shaker within budget, so have both chosen a smoke (greyish blue, which we love).

@BastilleBastille

I like it. I think it's lovely. What a brilliant find and what a great job your dad did!!!

Mamofboys5972 · 29/03/2025 08:28

We've just bought a house and the kitchen was already done so we're leaving it for now! Grey isn't really my colour but i can't argue with a big kitchen. Behind this photo is a small dining area and HUGE larder!

@LePetitMaman

DIY kitchens (the actual company not B&Q) as well worth looking at. I know lots of people that have used them and I've been to the showroom a couple of times, I'd happily post a few photos but I haven't actually had mine done yet and you really don't want photos of my existing kitchen!!

Their cabinets come solidly prebuilt so that saves you money on the Fitter as well. You can get various samples from them and they frequently have free door samples. So you can check the colours out at your own home.

The showroom is well worth a visit, it's a three hour drive from me and I've been twice.

Thank you, I've heard lots of noise about this company and they look good. I think the cynic in me thinks they are almost a bit too good to be true.

I'd be really interested to know how the process pans out. DH is convinced we're having something from Howdens because the customer service is apparently excellent. He's concerned that if a unit arrives from DIY K and it's damaged, it's going to be a pain to resolve.

DIY kitchens online. Amazing choice of kitchens, worktop etc. Much cheaper than Wickes, howdens etc and better quality.

You can buy sample doors if not sure. If you then purchase a kitchen from them you give the samples back to the delivery driver and the sample doors are refunded.
They have an online planning site so you can design it yourself and know what to order, and they come already made up.
A good local joiner can then install it.

I had a Wickes one put in a previous property and won't touch them with a barge pole after that experience.

This is our second hand kitchen. All in, including flooring, buying the whole kitchen, having the granite cut, it cost £2000. My partner fitted it. Price included the fitted oven, hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher.

We found a builder/ fitter first and asked his advice and got quotes.
he was fantastic!
we got a few kitchen companies around for ideas but the plan we loved was with wickes.
our fitter then bought the identical cabinets and stuff from diy kitchens and we had everything done, including plumbing, electrical, plastering , flooring and kitchen fitted in 6 days.
all in using the guy we found , who managed all other trades and fitted the kitchen, we saved 14k .

Flozle · 29/03/2025 08:57

Wickes have been bang on with us. No complaints at all.

8misskitty8 · 29/03/2025 09:08

Yes we used them. I ordered it all myself.
Delivery went smoothly. One door was missing as it was damaged which they noticed on the pre delivery check they do.
Replacement arrived a few days later.
Our joiner said he had fitted a few before and are very good quality and easy installation.

This is it during installation, Ilove it.

OK it's not finished yet.... But 100% recommend handmade kitchens of christchurch. Fabulous quality for price ( you need to pay your deposit during the sale periods). Great customer service. Long lead times but worth it.

DIY kitchens is amazing, we got our kitchen in our last house from them. Way better quality and cheaper than Howdens - our current house has a Howdens kitchen which was in when we bought it, waiting to put in a DIY kitchens in frame painted kitchen.

Well, Mr. sceptical can always go up to the showroom.

It's excellent quality, they save money by not having hundreds of showrooms and the huge costs involved with that space and the staff.

They have quite a view videos showing the manufacturing process and detailing how the cabinets are made.

There are hundreds of threads on here about them as well

They are pretty good at checking your plans and making sure you haven't forgotten anything but if you have, they're also pretty good at getting an extra whatever out to you fairly quickly. Because , they make up the units they are very solid and bits are not going to be missed.

If he wants to pay a lot more money to Howdens for lower quality unit...

Oh I know. Mr Sceptical's pal who is a jack of all trades master of feck all has fitted two Howdens kitchens and so that's what we need 🙄🙄

The fact that Dave trusts Howdens and hasn't heard of DIY K, but will charge us mates rates, is the current overriding factor.

We have used Benchmarx and very happy with the quality of the kitchen, also the sales people. They are just planning our utility as well

kirinm · 29/03/2025 09:56

We had a DIY kitchens kitchen. We purposely kept it neutral as we were always planning on selling. (We also had a very small space but it worked brilliantly). There’s a washing machine , dishwasher and fridge freezer there.
