At what point do you walk away from a house.

Just as the title says really. Is there a point you just give up on the house you want? Feeling quite deflated today after almost 9 months of our seller messing about. They have no onward purchase but don't seem to be too worried.

Anyone regret walking away?

When it feels as if you are in an abusive relationship with the house. I would definitely class keeping you on a string for 9 months as abusive.

We fell in love with a house but gradually identified more and more problems with it. It would have required compromises that eventually stretched beyond what we could face. I'm so happy we dropped out. Our current house required only one compromise, which we knew about before going to see it. Other than that it is literally perfect.

State you need a deadline for exchange and completion, if they haven't found a house to buy they need to rent or lose you as buyers. Start looking at other houses asap.

We pulled out after about 3 months. By the time we had completed on a different property, that first one was still on the market. They are not serious about selling OP.

Our neighbours keep doing this—they have “sold” their house 3 times now. My DH even met the last couple.

OP, just keep looking. You don’t have to withdraw in the meantime. I would definitely get your head around the fact that this house may never be yours.

I would have pulled out before now, there's no way I'd be wanting to live in them both for nine months!!

why wait until next week have a look what's for sale now and get some appointments made.

I am interested in this thread as we are in the process of selling - we sold our house after it had been on for a month and found a property 4 weeks later - offered and had it accepted. Our sellers had an offer accepted the week after we offered on theirs. So it was all very quick but we're now been waiting for their seller to find somewhere. I find the whole lack of a timeframe so unsettling! And interested to see a 'how long is too long to wait' discussion

I think the having no end in sight is the worst bit. It's getting very unsettling now.
