any recommendations for Japanese Loo Seat? (= Bidet & Heated Seat)

Japanese hotels often have these fancy loos which wash you, dry you and have a heated seat. It could be the next "must have" gadget after the kitchen boiling water tap.

Also, these seats are a sensible choice for people with problems in that department.

These loos are still very costly to buy as a complete item.

Or adapt an existing loo, by replacing the seat which were available from £350. But now prices have fallen to £139 on Amazon.

My question:

Has anyone tried these?
What can you say about reliability and perceived quality?

This is my first post on Mumsnet, apologies. This is a genuine request.

Cannot comment on the adapting of your original loo not sure on how that would work really, but we have had the TOTO washlet, expensive but well made.

You can cut the cost by having less functions.

We've had Hyundai and Coway. The Coway has lasted better than the Hyundai.

The higher end ones do have a lot of functions I've simply never used. The bidet with the courtesy music was the funniest function though.

This was my Mastermind subject for a while! I’ve spent a lot of time in Japan and therefore have tried most Japanese brands or at least the well known ones.
For myself I have a Washloo which is a British firm that does a lid and remote control version, not the entire toilet. At the time they did a bundle of a normal toilet and lid. It works brilliantly and does everything you’d expect including hot air but that part isn’t great. One downside is you can see the water hose (fixed side) but it’s a relatively small thing. Overall for the price it was great.

Do you not need an electricity supply near the loo to fit one of these?

We have Toto washlets, they are very good and the customer service is excellent.

Yes you do so it provably makes most sense when redecorating.

We have a Washloo. Much much cheaper than full Japanese toilet and works well. They are a UK based company and were really helpful.

We have a Gerberit. I don't think it was that expensive.

We have Biobidet which I think is great. Just be aware that the existing toilet bowl needs to be a certain size and shape for it to fit well. For example the bowl needs to be flat on top with no curve up towards the cistern.

Gerberit and Grohe japanese toilets cost upward of £800 (excl fitting) which I consider expensive.
