Buying a 30s house and looking for a book on 30s style that isn't all poirot art deco. Any recommendations?

I would start with explaining to ChatGPT what you are after and go from there. I live in a 1930s house (well 1929 but it's the same look). The best thing about them is their versatility. You get ceilings that are higher than modern homes, but not so high that you need a huge stepladder to change a light bulb. Sometimes you get high skirtings and parquet flooring, but that can depend on whether it was a high end house when it was built. The fireplaces I find can be a bit drab with all that tiling, but many have been removed these days and either bricked up or replaced by wood burners. It's normally quite easy to knock down interior walls to expand the living or cooking spaces. The rooms tend to have a bit of shape due to them having chimney breasts so less boxy than modern homes. So they retain some character, which you can use to lean into an older traditional look or modernise and pair with contemporary styles.

I can’t recommend a book, but I find Pinterest the best source for interior ideas for our 1930s house - fireplaces, flooring, colours. How much of the original features are still in yours? We have the doors but none of the fireplaces or parquet, sadly, nor the stained glass.
