Induction hob recommendations

Looking to install a new induction hob as our old electric hob is broken.
There’s so many options! So wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

We really like our HiSense simply because the controls are so simple. Lots we checked out looked like the helm controls on a starship.

We've got a downdraft Neff - it's absolutely fine - if a bit beepy. But it has a detachable control knob. Which is daft as it's very easy to lose and very expensive to replace!

The issue with induction is that you really need to go for a good one, I.e. more expensive! You hear so many people say they have had them in rentals or airbnbs and say that they are rubbish. But they tend to be cheaper ones.

We had a Neff in our previous house and loved it. It was top of the range at the time we bought it in 2011 and we had no issues. It had the detachable magnetic control knob too. We were very strict about popping it in the drawer after each use. We moved in 2021 so no idea how it is now obviously!

We bought a house with a gas range cooker and hate it. About to change to an induction range. Unfortunately Neff don’t do them but otherwise we would get Neff again.

My first induction hob came from Comet when they went bust in 2012. Unbranded it was all working just fine when I moved last year. It did occasionally have a brain fart and needed switching off at the mains but no other issues. it maybe as they've got more popular and cheaper they are being made down to a price. When we went looking for this one most of the more expensive offerings had lots more bells and whistles we'd never need and so looked much more complicated to drive. We are definitely a K.I.S.S. principle kind of house - it would be hard no to any appliance where you can remove and so loose an essential a bit of it.

We really like our AEG one. It has 4 zones, but you can combine the 2 left or 2 right ones if you're using larger pans.

Do check if you need to upgrade your cabling - the more powerful induction hobs need a bigger cable to run on.

Mine is hard wired in, my oven has a plug. This means the hob is powerful and I can have pans boiling away without it affecting the other pans. With some plug in ones it cannot handle the load pull you want when cooking. So research that aspect.

Ours also allows you to combine areas, so the whole left side or the whole right side. We could only fit a 60cm wide one in our kitchen. I would have preferred a 90 wide piano style is the whole surface is a cooking area and it detects the pan.

Things to consider, the size of your pans. With induction if the pan is too big the edges of the pan are relying on the metal conducting heat so the middle of the pan is bubbling away and the outside is not. I batch cook so use what I call a family pot which means the base is larger than the usual ring hence the combined cooking zone.

I can recommend the brand, mine is a Di Dietrich and I bought it 12 years ago, looks practically brand new but it was £850 at the time. Worth every, single penny. It is used daily and just needs a wipe down with a cloth.

@AnnieStar12 You must have the correct electricity supply for hard wired. Plug ins are slower and less good. DD has a Bosch and I have a Miele. We cannot fault them but my Miele does more but cost more. Go for it but get the correct electricity supply.
