Fitted wardrobes WWYD? Sharps or local carpenter?

We are looking to get the fitted wardrobes redone in 3 bedrooms. Plan is to stay in our house at least 10 years. Have a toddler and a baby on the way, so expecting them to get heavy usage over the years.

Who would you choose for these?

Local carpenter who did some work for us last year that we were happy with (a media wall, shelves and cupboards). Wardrobes would be completely bespoke and hand painted by a decorator. Works would take 3+ weeks and would be when baby is 2-3 months old. Hopefully we’d be away for 2 weeks of the works. Quote £11,500

Sharps. Works would be done within a week and perhaps before baby arrives. Comes with a 15 year transferable guarantee. Quote £15,500

Overall look and wardrobe design would be similar.

Is it a total no brainer to save £4k or am I missing something by not going with Sharps?

Thank you!

The guarantee is not worth the paper its written on with these big companies.

Local carpenter every time.

Local carpenter.

Sharps did a terrible job for my Dad, couldn’t fit the bed between the 2 bedside cabinets or open one of the wardrobe doors fully.

Local carpenter.
I had my bedroom redone recently and got a local carpenter in. He removed the doors of the existing units, repainted them with diamond finish paint, replaced all the hinges and handles. They look like new and there was no mess. Cost me a fraction of what Sharps quoted to pull out and replace the existing units. He added some shelving and drawers on the adjacent wall and matched up the paint and handles.
I have got him lined up to do some work elsewhere in the house which I wouldn't have been able to afford if I hadn't saved so.much on the bedroom.

Obviously get references, check their insurance and go and see some of their work.

Wren kitchens now do fitted bedrooms, so much cheaper than sharps but the quality is still there, because it’s a new line they are doing great discounts

We just had ours put in by fittingly , seems fine so far . Our original quote we got from sharps was about £6k with various discounts , fittingly was about half that .

local carpenter always!

Local carpenter. Sounds like you have experience of his work -stick with what you know. The problem with the big firms is you have no control over the quality of the fitting. At the end of the day it is the quality of the fitting work you end up living with.
