No Bath in main bathroom but…

Current set up is a bath and small quadrant enclosure in main bathroom.
En-suite is similar sized to main bathroom but due to low ceiling height a shower is tricky to fit. So will always have a bath in there.

We are considering changing the bath in the main bathroom for a large walk in shower. We are planning on staying here at least another 10 years and this set up would best suit our family. However obviously a lot of people would say don’t do it because a main bathroom should have a bath.

Thoughts please?

We are doing this. Our architect advised us not to but I have never used the bath in all the years I have lived here and we will have one in an en-suite. It makes the bathroom so much bigger and user friendly.

I don't think it matters if you are planning to stay for 10 years and it's what you want. Though there's also nothing wrong with a shower over a bath if it's a decent shower. You could get one of those baths that's bigger at the shower end in that case.

I think as long as you have a bath somewhere it's fine. Having a lovely large shower is great, we had a small corner shower before we renovated, now we have much bigger showers in all
Our bathrooms and a large bath too in the main bathroom - perfect!

I think it’s fine as long as you have a bath in the en suite.

Absolutely fine. There is no issue with bathing children in the ensuite rather than in the main bathroom, and on occasions where an adult uses it surely it's better in the ensuite?

Thank you so much for the replies! I think it just makes so much more sense. The main shower room can be the practical space and then the en suite can be the relaxing bath space…except when the younger kids decide it’s bath time 🤣

I think if you're staying 10 years do what you like.

We are looking for a family home and I have discounted houses without a bath at all as my young children use it, but if the ensuite had a bath that would be totally fine!

We did this in the family bathroom (again had a bath in ensuite) but went for a walk in shower that was bath sized and obviously where a bath would go so that in future either we could switch it back or a purchaser could see it was a relatively simple job

Just do what suits you best! It’s your home to live in for the next 10 years. For your info we don’t have a bath at all in a 4 bedroom detched house.
