Anyone got a house through a Housing Association?

Just that really. Council waiting list is so long. I was considering signing up directly with some housing associations. Wondered how likely it is to be able to get a house, or do they have massive waiting lists as well? Just wondered if anyone had been successfully this way?

Do you work? Not saying all HA but ours offers 25% of its stock to people in full time employment only at 10% higher rent than the rent of their stock. My HA calls them”market rent” we got one of those, the tenancy is for life with the same terms as the rest of the properties, the kitchen is nicer though fully fitted with integrated hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge freezer, we had to supply our own washing machine and drier in the utility room.

The majority of housing association properties are let through council housing registers but some have stocks they direct let or open market rentals.

I work part time. Did you have to be assessed by the HA to get your property, or does it work differently with 'Market Rent'?

The one I'm looking at says 50% of its stock are let through local council, so presumably the other 50% they must allocate themselves.

@PinkPinkPinkBlue The normal stock was allocated through the council choose base letting site, the market rent properties are let through the housing association themselves. They asked for proof of employment which was a payslip, then they did an affordability test, reference etc. It was a quick and efficient process

@Bluebellsnowdrop Bournville Village Trust (BVT) it’s based in Birmingham and Shropshire.

@Bluebellsnowdrop It was a very quick and efficient process, I think 1/4 or so of their stock are let through this process.
