According to zoopla a house we want to make an offer an has been listed for sale every year since 2021. It hasn’t gone up in vale in that time either they’ve listed for the same asking price every year. The vendor told us they listed 3 years ago but the buyers pulled out so decided to stay. The agent told us the vendor listed 2 years ago but couldn’t find an onward purchase so pulled they out themselves.

Could there be something wrong with the property that’s making it un mortgageable? Structural, subsidence etc so there’re hoping it won’t come up in another survey? Would an agent have to tell us this? Could they just be flaky vendors? Just seems a bit odd to me and don’t want to waste time and money on a survey etc

Neighbour of ours puts their house up for sale each Spring until Autumn, it is overpriced massively, they just take a punt that someone might be daft enough to buy it at that price. They have no actual plans to move unless offered the huge asking price.

We bought one like this - vendor was in the situation where she would have liked to sell but didn't NEED to (the house was now too big for her as kids had left home basically), and would sell if she got what she wanted for it but wasn't going to play the silly offers game.

Worked for us - we came in said we would pay full asking price if she was happy to wait while we sold ours (this was right after the Kamikwaze budget made selling difficult) and because she wasn't desperate to move and knew we weren't playing silly buggers - she was happy to hang on for us. Once everything was lined up, she was the loveliest, smoothest vendor to deal with (let's not talk about our bloody buyers who drove me mad) bless her.

If it's got as far as survey in the past, you could ask the EA about obtaining a copy of the old survey from the previous purchaser for a reduced/nominal amount.

Slightly off topic but it reminds me of a beautiful 17th century cottage in the next village, it's always up for sale (or seems to be) very reasonable price, stunning inside and out backing on to woodland walking distance of a pub and village amenities, sounds perfect and yet the minute it's sold it's back on the market within 2-3 years, makes me wonder if it's haunted! Sorry OP not helpful I know!

We’ve been on the market three times in the past 3 years. There’s nothing wrong with our house, just circumstances have meant we’ve come on and off twice.

Originally we went on for a specific house and came off when that sold before we did. Last year we went back on but came off after almost a year of no offers in order to redecorate and spruce up. Now we’re back on again.
