Has anyone experience of upgrading windows in a listed building? Just really after an idea of what you paid and any issues which arose...

We replaced 10 with new wood framed heritage double glazed windows about five years ago, although they were ordered pre-Covid, so probably cheaper than they are now - I can't remember the exact price as it was part of a larger renovation, but I think it was pretty eye-watering, around 40,000. No issues at all except that we had to be very specific in our planning application to get them signed off by the conservation officer. Surprisingly, they also agreed to let us replace all the back windows that open into the garden with Crittal doors. House is Grade 2.

Have you looked into secondary glazing? That way you get to keep the character and history and have all the benefits of double glazed.

I don't know if the process is the same in Scotland but in England you need to apply for listed buildings consent to do change windows on a listed building.

We did and it was given. We refurbished the existing windows and had thin profile heritage double glazed units rebated into the existing windows. We got a ventrolla systems fitted to make them less drafty and have also fitted magnetic secondary glazing .
