Broadband poles being erected right outside house

Has anybody had this happen to them and been successful in getting them down?! Woke up this morning to 2 telegraph poles being erected one at the back and one at the front I’m so upset- no comms, no notice or anything it looks horrible. The council have said they don’t need permission with it being telecoms but surely there’s something that can be done about this? Any success stories would be appreciated.

Unfortunately as long as the poles have been put up on public land and they're not causing a safety issue there's not really anything you can do. There is a code of practise for the siting of poles and cabinets but it's voluntary and Ofcom doesn't have any teeth to insist it's followed. Plus as telephone poles have been a fixture on UK streets for so long they're not regarded as something that's aesthetically important.

I used to work for them there’s very little in Way of permission and even less as grounds to complain
no notice or consultation is required

there should be a notice on them giving you the details of how to object but honestly your wasting your time

They did them on our road a few years ago. The broadband is much faster than what we had.

Sadly nothing you can do. They don't need planning permission and presuming it's on council property and not yours.

You could hope they put a ULEZ camera on them and someone cuts them down 😁

No advice, but if you Google 'on this day 1958 matthews' it is a short clip that might cheer you up :-)

(In 1958 Mr Matthews sat guard outside his house to stop lampposts being erected)

We’ve had this in our area from a company called IX Wireless and there really is nothing that can be done about it, it’s been a nightmare as they also erect enormous masts too which are a horrific eyesore. But they have the green light with permitted development legislation so they can put them up practically anywhere.

What was it like? IX have got very few staff. Did anyone ever answer the phone or reply to emails?!

This is a regulatory failure - the government wanted the private sector to provide broadband to 'help the poor' without having to pay for it themselves. Private companies are swooping in pretending to install infrastructure.

One company in particular has a really worrying track record. Lots of liquidations and massive losses in related companies. It's not clear how they are going to make any money.

They look like they will eventually go bust, but only after getting the DCMS vouchers and paying themselves lots of dividends. And leaving the giant poles and cabinets littering our streets.
