Can I make artificial grass smell better?

I know artificial grass is really hated here, so please be kind.

We've moved into a house with a small patch of fake grass.
Removal is not an option yet as we have too many other expensive jobs to do, and this would be a huge and messy job as all equipment and waste would need to come in and out of the house.

But...the grass stinks!
Only just become noticeable now the weather is nicer and I've been trying to tidy it up.

Amazon etc has loads of grass cleaning solutions.
Do any really work?
Is it possible to get poo smells out of the grass?

Now I realise why people day fake grass can reduce the value of houses...wish I'd push harder to drive our price down now 😑

I've had my artificial lawn laid for over 10 years, and there has never been a smell. Did the previous owners let their pets/dogs wee on it?

I can only assume so.
I know they had 2 dogs.
We also have a problem with local cats chilling in our garden.

It's definitely a dog poo smell though (not that I know if cats smell differently).
There's nothing visible, so must be soaked in.

I'm not sure how well it was laid.
Looking at everything else in the house, the previous owner tried to do everything himself and it hasn't always worked out.

Hi OP, there is a good solution from Bugalugs, it's called artificial grass cleaner and you can get it on Amazon. There are 2 scents, IMO the lavender is nicer

BnM sell fabulosa artificial grass cleaner - in the seasonal aisle. It worked well on ours.

Thank you.
I was looking at these products, so good to know they may be worth a try.

Apparently cats aren't keen on lavender, so hoping it might reduce their use of the garden!

We have artificial grass.

It is laid on a big bed of permeable hardcore, then sharp sand. Of course the thicker this is, the better any liquids will drain and smells dissapear. Quite often there is also a layer of a fibre mat which adds a bit of extra cushioning. Lovely underfoot but it can soak up dog pee etc and bring with it odours. We were advised not to have it if we had dogs using it.

For the record we had it in our old house for 15 years and our current house for 5 years. It has never smelled.

Its about that time of the year again for me & my partner to go and spruce it up so we will use a leaf blower/sucker to get rid of anything on top. Then i use a snowfoam gun we use for the cars and use a general cleaner meant for artificial grass. I think my partner got it last year from B&M for a few quid. The snowfoam gun does it in minutes and is very theraputic. We then use a stiff brush to go over it and rub it in. Quick rinse and its good for another 12 months. Our lawn honestly smells like fresh washing most of the summer.

Thanks @Tessasanderson
I will check out a snowfoam gun.
I was looking at a brush on Amazon, but quick and easy is preferable!

Of all the issues to sort, I'd not anticipated a smelly garden!

When pets pee indoors you can get a product that neutralises the odour. Not to make it smell less but because animals will pee in the same place again and again if it isn't neutralised completely. After washing it might be worth spraying it with a neutraliser. The rain will eventually wash it off but it might stop any local cats from using it as a toilet.
