The last few days this smell has been building up. It's definitely coming from the two bathrooms in the house- one upstairs and one downstairs.

We have checked the drains outside but no blockages.

What could it be!? The smell is so distinct and odd!

No blockages in the house, dishwasher etc all fine!

We were told to run the taps showers and flush loos all at the sMe time.

I would strongly say to NOT do this.

Our pressure valve went and flooded the house when we flushed the toilet while running the shower.

We had this problem a few weeks ago and couldn't bear the thought of ripping up the floorboards to see where the dead rat may be so we just lived with it, opening windows, using air fresheners and incense burners, it does fade after a few weeks.

As you're in rented accommodation the landlord might be willing to lift floorboards.

Once the smell has gone you then get the joy of an influx of flies which have hatched from the larvae/pupae. They are quicker to get rid of with using fly spray.
