Click or stick LVT?

Wondering what the pros and cons of each our and how to choose.
We had planned on click LVT as my husband could fit that and save on labour costs. However, our builder said the one you glue down is better… which obviously we couldn’t do ourselves. Any thoughts?

Why could you not glue it down yourself ?

I am wary of sticking anything down with glue, because then if you want to take it up again it will make a right mess and be really difficult to do.

Definitely would not feel skilled enough to do that! I assume there’s a knack to it.

We have the floating click LVT and I don’t like it, it separates over time and you have to keep sorting it out, we have ended up getting a handyman to glue bits together etc. I don’t think it’s down to just poor installation as it was our joiner who did it when doing the extension and he did a good job with everything else.

How are the floors? Glue down needs a nice, flat floor whereas click is more forgiving.

We have ours glued down. We used the local guy who is an authorised fitter and we have used him for the last 20+ years for any flooring so we know any issues would be sorted.

Its been down for 5 years and still as good as the day it was fitted. We paid for the floors to be screed before fitting, they came after it was screed and made 100% sure it was all perfect before fitting.

The only issue we had was i was sure the flooring was supposed to have what looks like a grout line between all the tiles. It hasnt, its all butted up tight to each other. I was a bit dissapointed to begin with and even visited the shop again to get a look at the sample i viewed. I was the on in the wrong so accepted it.

In the end i am so glad it was like that. It has aged perfectly even though its our main room for footfall. We have 2 dogs and chairs etc sliding over it. Its also a lot easier to clean and i have heard people having issues with the fake grout part discolouring.

Mine is glued as we have a wheelchair user in the house but I was advised that it was the best method anyway.

We were advised to go with glue and have had no problems with it. Fitters laid plywood over the original floor boards first. If a plank needs replacing, it's much easier than the click version apparently, as they just heat it to dissolve the glue and fit in a new plank.
