Anyone got tall kitchen cabinets to the ceiling?

We've had our new kitchen planned out and have included taller units to the ceiling for more room. Can you reasonably easily reach onto the lower shelves, or do you have you got a gap between ceiling and top cupboards? I've measured from ceiling to the bottom of the cabinets and realised the bottom part is higher than our current ones.

Think this shows how it works. Intentional gap for fridge as apparently new ones slightly taller so joiner has left space for us to put in a bigger one when this one dies. They go back the full way- had to specify this as lots of people don't like that apparently.

I can confirm you absolutely have done the right thing leaving that gap as I had exactly this problem when I had to replace my fridge freezer! We had to make the cupboard above a bit smaller and it's a bit of an eyesore but will do until we replace the whole kitchen.

Very jealous of all your cupboards!

@CellophaneFlower that's really reassuring to hear, thank you!

We have them to the ceiling. I'm 5'4" and can't reach the bottom shelf of the top units, but maybe i think they must be higher than standard. We have a little skinny cupboard that holds a step stool and only rarely used stuff lives in the top cupboards. Love the extra storage - no regrets! We have about 1cm between ceiling and cabinets.

If we have them fitted from the top of ceiling, then the bottom will certainly start off higher. Installer came out yesterday and said he can fit them lower but obviously they'll be a gap at the top. I'm not one for dusting the tops like crazy but I should be able to get a feather duster between top and ceiling, it's just reaching up to leave the dirty off top front edges to deal with. We're having a section put underneath a cabinet for a mini ladder, so that might help otherwise it'd be a chair for the top cupboard.
