Which would you choose?

Smaller house and holidays without a doubt.

We are still in the two and a half bed ex-council semi we've had for 30 years. Mortgage and bills payable out of one salary, so no immediate panic if one of us lost a job. Money available for meals/days out and holidays, and mortgage paid off a few years back.

@blobby10
We are all very different. My small house has never made me miserable but the holiday you describe certainly would !

Our house is nice enough but there are lots of things we would like to do such as a new kitchen etc but these have put on the backburner and the money has been spent on holidays and some big ones. My DD is 16 this year so we are trying to make the most of being able to take her on holidays before she is off doing her own travelling. Also, because you don't know what can happen in the future with declining health as you get older and holidays may be trickier and more expensive insurance.
