Utility Pole

Hi,

Anyone with experience of redirecting services of electric poles? It's not just a phone line.

We have a large plot but have an unsightly line that dangles across my garden and provides power to neighbours.

Also another line that will prevent us having our planned extension unless we move it.

We were quoted 12k!!! From the electric firm. To add a new pole to redirect away from our house and somehow redirect the back line that hangs across garden. It's a huge cost that prevents us doing what we want to our own property.

Waveleave agreement is rubbish £400 for 25 years! Laughable really.

I assume these poles didn't just grow out the ground overnight and were there when you bought the house ?

My guess is your house was quite a bit cheaper when you bought it because these poles are in place. So now you have the option to do something about them. Really its an investment in the property that you should get back when you sell it.

I would be wondering whether it is possible to cure the problem for good and actually have them placed underground, even if it might be a bit more expensive.

But I don't think you have a leg to stand on complaining about the situation because you surely knew they were in place when you bought the house ?

I used to work for the utilities and I’m surprised it’s only 12k

its 12k or live with it

as for the wayleaver pretty standard and the person who dealt with it originally must of agreed to it

unfortunately it is what it is

12k is a huge cost.

Not many people can pull out 12k from back pocket to stick a new pole in the ground.

We offered to dig trenches and the guy we are speaking to about it doesn't even reduce the cost for us doing part of the work.

Yes wish it was cheaper but the location is pricey and the village has poles everywhere.

Yes an agreement dating back to the 1950s or so..

When you start building your e extension you will realise that 12K is a mere drop in the ocean. You can't move it yourself and you can't can't barter with a utilities company so just swallow the cost and move on.
