Does anyone have kitchen splashback and worktop uptstand?

If you've got a kitchen splash back and worktop upstand, do you find the walls above the upstand get noticably dirty, and especially in the region of the sides of splash back?

We've gone for a slash back and upstand rather than tiles and first person we told told us not to go for it as they struggle to keep their wall clean either side of the splashback.

If you do have this problem, do you think one set of horizontal rectangular tiles either side of the splash back would look ok? We'd do this as a feature.

No issues either side of the splashback behind the hob, but the walls in other areas do get marked. We used Dulux trade paint and it just wipes clean.

Anyone else?

I was also told by my builder that I would regret not having tiles above the upstand ! But as I have an island that's where I do most of my prep and I don't find the sides by the splash back by the hob get dirty. As previous poster, I have Dulux Kitchen paint and any small splash marks wipe off easily. So regrets here. You could always add them afterwards if you really found it a problem .

Topcrete?

No tiles for over 3 years and we cook a lot , get the odd mark on wall usually from utensil pot but they come off easily with a magic eraser - so much better than cleaning tiles

I do and it's not too bad. Use kitchen paint and it wipes down easily if anything gets splashed.

I just have an upstand at the moment, but am actually having the rest tiled tomorrow as I'm so fed up of the mess! I've put up with it for two years but the paintwork is looking really grubby now and I don't want to be redecorating constantly. We've tried to keep on top of the marks and have touched up the paint in places, but it's been impossible to keep it looking fresh for any length of time.

I've got a stainless steel backsplash behind the hob and I've never had an issue on either side or any of the walls above the worktop. We've got dark teal paint and any odd marks just wipe off. I suppose it might be different with a light colour but as I've got white/ very pale grey units it's not an issue.

We have a splash back behind the hob and sink (to windowsill) and upstand everywhere else. Our walls are a pale colour, I think it was kitchen paint so should be more wipeable than other paint. We’ve had our kitchen 3 years and I guess if you examined closely you might see some marks on the walls but nothing that bothers me. I much prefer to tiles which I think look old fashioned now (although will probably come back into fashion at some point).
