Professional Full House clean before listing

I will be selling the family home in the coming months as both parents have passed away. The house will require a full clean from top to bottom before I list it for sale. Has anyone used such a company before that can give me an idea of how much this costs? Everywhere I go to to get a quote or enquire wants to come to the house first , before quoting, which is understandable and I will do this if its an option to get this done. However I live miles away from the house in question.

I have literally no idea what kind of ballpark figure I would be looking for to use a service such as this, which is all I require really at this stage to even know if its an option that I can afford.

Are we talking a couple of hundred or much more? Any idea anyone?

It depends where the house is, how big it is and what state it's in. I would say £300-£500 as a ballpark, but that's why they want to come round before quoting.

I don’t know about the cleaning, but my FIL had a charity come and empty the house. They took everything and they reuse the furniture and sell whatever valuables there are. Maybe you could look into this and then separately a cleaning company if that’s something that’s available where your parent’s house is.

I was thinking that too but I just have no idea but that seems reasonable to me. It is a 3 bed semi with 1 bathroom so would more than likely take 2 people a full day to give it a proper clean through. Thanks.

Thank you. When I look at the job and what needs doing I think it would take 2 people about 5-6 hours to do. Its not massively filthy or anything but its a bit grimy round the skirting boards and the kitchen and bathrooms need a good clean. Its a 3 bed semi with 1 bathroom. I am hoping it won't be anymore than £500

You might need to factor in carpet cleaning / oven cleaning / garden tidying separately too.

I'm sorry for your losses OP. Flowers

We have a property we rent out to students and each year, needs a deep clean with the new tenancy. Small, 4 bed, semi, 1 bathroom, 1 cloakroom and small lounge/diner. Its generally £250-£300 in the Sth East.

Things to ask

  • do they clean light fittings? Cobwebs from the ceiling? Some charge extra to clean anything overhead or requiring a step ladder. Some won't do this at all and will only clean things between their knee and head height- nothing above or below!
-Will they clean the skirting boards. -Oven -Inside the washing machine, in particular the plastic seal and drawers -Will they move furniture and clean behind? Obviously, not an issue if you are cleaning the property though

Thank you, and thank you for this, its really helpful. The house is a 3 bed semi with one bathroom and is in the West Midlands. A little grubby but not filthy dirty or anything. Looking at it I would say it would take 2 people about 5-6 hours to clean it/dust/hoover etc... I am hoping it will be closer to £300.

I would think 4-500 if you want a deep clean. Does the oven need doing too?

Iloveeverycat · 24/02/2025 20:37

When I went to sell my parents home. I ask the estate agent about what needed doing before selling as it was a bit if a state like needing a good clean the carpets needed replacing garden etc He said just leave it as it was.

GrumpyDullard · 24/02/2025 20:43

We rent out a 2 bed terrace in NW England and were charged £400 for a pre tenancy clean. I thought it was a lot, especially as it was pretty clean to start with and there are only carpets on the stairs and in the two bedrooms, but I asked on the local community fb page, and the consensus was that's normal.

User7288339 · 24/02/2025 22:46

Will it be empty? I think it's much quicker and easier to deep clean an empty property.

caringcarer · 24/02/2025 23:12

I'm in the West Midlands too and I have a professional oven clean, twice a year. It cost £90 each time.

Try housekeep.com I use them for regular cleaning and find them good but they also do deep cleaning/end of tenancy type cleaning and you can get an online quote.
