Hello šŸ‘‹

do any of you have insurance for your home? Your fuse boxes etc? I’m looking at insuring my electrics and boiler and hoping someone can recommend a decent company to do this as it’s all new to me, thanks!

? It would be covered under your home insurance

I think they mean for repairs etc., i.e. leaks and electrical wiring causing trips etc., which wouldn't be covered from a normal house/contents insurance policy as regarded as normal maintenance/wear and tear.

@Badbadbunny yes, that is what I mean :)

We've got a policy with British Gas which apart from covering the boiler etc also covers emergency plumbing and electrical issues I think. I believe the premium includes an annual boiler service.
Although we wouldn't use them as an energy supplier this has been ok. I can't remember the price - not cheap and we've got a £50 excess per issue iirc.

We use British Gas. Not cheap and their premium goes up every year as appliances etc get older, but we have cover for the boiler and central heating system, internal plumbing and electrics and a gas fire in the lounge. They do an annual service of the boiler and gas fire. We've had to call them out a few times, no problems with them replacing faulty components - they tend to come back a couple of days later with the parts etc if they've needed to be ordered. I think they cover boilers and gas fires until they're ten years old - they won't cover older appliances.

Complete waste of money in my opinion. How often do electrics go wrong? Even when they do it’s usually a cheap quick fix.

Missing the point. It's not about cost, it's about having someone to call, quickly and easily, to come out to fix it, relatively quickly, without all the hassle of trying to find a tradesmen who'll come when they say, most aren't interested in "emergency" work or will charge you a huge call out fee, then some will try to rip you off saying work needs doing which doesn't etc. At least with a call out service like British Gas, they'll turn up near enough at the time agreed, will do what's needed without fuss, not trying to "up sell" for things that don't need doing, and more likely to respect you and your house! Far better than randomly phoning people and hoping for the best.
