Skylight, is this normal

My builder has installed a skylight in our kitchen see pictures. It is not finished yet (paint to be done) but wondering why there is this large black frame all around, will this be "peeled off" / "cut" at the end?
thanks a lot

Can't possibly tell. Looks like a black frame on the photos. Ask your builder?

As per the post in Home Decoration - that’s the window frame.

Well it has to have a frame and this looks like that's exactly what this is. Is it the colour you don't like? It's not a film (as it wouldn't wrap so closely all around and it's not usually black). Unless you are saying the black is over the glass (rather than the support)? I think the black looks smart.

I was expecting this (ie no lining).

Surely you chose the window though? You must have noticed it had the frame that it does?

looking at the photo at the end of the window in the one you thought it looks like you can see the frame and you can also see a gap from the glazing to the mullion which is sitting flush the plasterboard and you can see the frame extend past this point. I would hazard a guess that the have brought the plasterboard bulkhead in the width of the frame so it looks flush would be interesting to see what it looks like from above. However you need a frame for the glazing to sit in, your builder could bring in the plasterboard but your opening would be smaller by however wide the frame is each side

Adding some more pictures, you can see on the last one that the black lining is very thin

I was expecting this (ie no lining).

The black it structural framing.
The boxing in the picture is where the plasteboard is used to hide the frame

If you want the no lining look the builder can add a wedge shape at the top and and add another slab of plasterboard

...---...
._ ......._
..]/ ...... \ .[

_ = frame
-- = glass
] [ = existing plaster board
/ \ = new plaster boards

... = format ajustment (edit)

So when looking up the glass looks like its floating above the celing

Or just narrow the box shape opening

You need to take account of the possibility of condensation dripping from the cold metal and adjust the design if needed.

Gurr that looks odd

Look at about 52 min for outside of skylight
And 1h 5 min for plastering the inside plasterboard

No it won’t be peeled off, it’s the physical frame of the window … just like the windows in your walls.
To have a frameless look you either needed to have a much higher spec window with a slimmer profile for the frame and/or have a more expensive plaster detail where the plaster board is brought forward to give the illusion of frameless.
As it is you have a chunky frame and 2 separate pieces so yours always going to have a lot on show.
