Kitchen - oven situation

Hi guys!

Hopefully (keeping everything crossed) my family and I are moving to our "forever home" in a few months' time. After having truly dreadful kitchens in our current / previous properties, I am incredibly excited to design, and have fitted, a new kitchen in our new home.

One thing I'm currently battling with is how many ovens to have...

We do a lot of entertaining and I can only see that increasing when we move and, again, over the years as our parents get older.

In our current kitchen, we have a standard under the counter double oven and it's not enough (though we're not actually able to use the two ovens at the same time as it trips the power so I've never had the full experience!).

I had initially thought I'd go for two eye-level ovens, side by side, with warming drawers underneath but now I'm thinking two double eye-level ovens might be better (given the smaller ones would have grills in them) buuut I want slide and hide (Neff) which they don't do in an eye-level double oven, so I'd need to buy them separately. If I'm doing that, would I be better just going for four single ovens?! Or is that overkill? We're trying to future-proof as much as possible.

Any comments or suggestions are very welcome!

I have a neff combi oven above a neff normal oven. Plenty of oven space and lots of options.

I had a warming drawer in my old kitchen and chose not to have another.

Four single ovens does seem like a lot! We have a range (2 ovens and a grill) and also a dual air fryer, which has been sufficient for catering for large numbers at Christmas etc.

I have 2 single ovens. I wanted neff hide and slide but they weren’t available (pandemic) so I went for 2 hotpoint ovens with the pyro cleaning. I thought I’d keep them a couple of years then replace with neff but haven’t because they are fab and my mum’s neff has been repaired 5 times in 3 years (3 times for same issue but they ordered wrong part etc). She’s gutted about her neffs and I’m sticking with hotpoint which cost half the price.

I have a four oven range cooker. It’s fantastic and it comes into its own when we entertain. I can easily do four courses for 15+ so if that’s your thing, go for it!
I also have a Neff slide and hide. It is honestly crap. It’s looses so much heat, cooking times are an estimate. I wouldn’t have one again.

I love my neff hide and slides, I have two and find them plenty.

nahthatsnotforme · 18/02/2025 21:29

I like my neffs but they're no better than the Siemens they replaced. The hide and slide is a bit of a gimmick imo

TheDogsMother · 18/02/2025 22:16

We have the Neff slide and hide above a Neff combi oven which works really well. The slide and hide is ideal the space is slightly tight in that part of the kitchen.

We cook and entertain quite a bit.
We have an eye level Neff (slide and hide), an eye level Neff combi oven over a warming drawer, a slow cooker and a an airfryer. We hosted 16 at Christmas and it all worked out really well.

We have a range cooker with 4 ovens and I only ever use 3 of them at Christmas. If you like making bread then make sure you get an oven with a bread warming function. Our 4th oven is a slow cooker over and I do use it quite a bit but again you can get that as a function in the main oven. So I think 2 multifunction ovens would do the job.

Same as this but no slow cooker. We regularly cook big family roast etc meals for 8/9 using just the hide and slide. Rarely use the combi as anything other than a crap microwave. The double warming drawer is great and plenty big enough.

the airfyer is a recent addition which is handy for doing stuffing in.

Has anyone any experience of Stoves 60cm dual fuel? I may have to part with my 90 cm Range Master Elan which I love.

Hi all!

Thanks for the feedback. We ended up going for two slide and hide ovens, and two warming drawers underneath, and it's the perfect set up for us (I'm so in love with my new kitchen!).

I'm surprised that some say the slide and hide is just a novelty... For a 5ft woman, it's absolutely fantastic because I can reach/see in so much easier without the doors in the way and being able to get closer to the ovens makes cleaning them a doddle. They're also great when lots of people are around because the walkways stay clear. We had 14 sat eating around our island which would have been a lot trickier without the slide and hide!

xx
