I'm buying somewhere I'm perfectly happy with...but. If I had the cash, I'd be buying this and doing it up. I've always had a thing for Victorian houses... 🤔

Ooh, Victorian house super cheap

Gosh they've only been there a year and put it back on the market for £70k more than they paid. Looks like they did that very bold green room and blue room and then stopped and went to the estate agents.

I'd buy this. Mostly for the fireplace in the banqueting hall, the bannisters and all those mullion Windows. It's next to some holiday cottages but I suppose that would be ok. It's not exactly a heaving metropolis

@HobnobsChoice youd be freezing there!!!

you’d need to invest in numerous us oodies and thermal socks!

it’s a no from me life is too short to be freezing

mjf981 · 19/02/2025 06:13

I don't like your house at all OP! Looks cold and would cost an absolute fortune to do up and run. Maybe you have better vision than me though, I'm sure the right person could make it right.

Blingismything · 19/02/2025 06:17

There is no downstairs loo in the first house.

overmydeadbody · 19/02/2025 06:18

I love my house, it's a 15 minute walk to beautiful sandy beaches, but if I could I'd love to live on one of the houses on the seafront!

Ilovelowry · 19/02/2025 07:01

I'd like to live on a very very expensive road in our nearest cathedral city, but only in one of the houses that has a lot of land around it, very tall hedges and a swimming pool like some of them do.

Dont want to link as it would be outing. Problem is we couldn't take our dogs as they bark all the time which is fine in a country hamlet where no one can hear them, but threads would be made about me in the city!

What a fireplace! I don't really want the whole house but would quite happily have a studio flat in the banqueting room to just bask in its glory.

My dream home type for only double my budget would be 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and downstairs loo with large garden.

Yes please!

HobnobsChoice · 19/02/2025 07:43

I'm used to the weather in that area. And cold houses! Lots of warm socks and layers and sitting In that inglenook.
In the 5 days of sunshine that you get in the South Pennines it will be glorious!

UnimaginableWindBird · 19/02/2025 07:54

@HoratioBum - that house looked familiar and I realized that I'd already made a note of it in case of unexpected riches, even though I live in Yorkshire!

Locally, I'd like one of these two:

Oo that one in Clifton is wonderful. Lovely proportions.

Starseeking · 19/02/2025 08:06

15 years ago I lived just off Sloane Square, behind Peter Jones in a 2 bed, 2 bath flat that cost me and my sister £1,200 each per month in rent. We were both on good money, it was affordable for us and I loved the area.

If I had £5-10m to spend on property, I'd live in one of the back streets of Chelsea where it feels like you are practically out of the city.

SallyWD · 19/02/2025 08:31

Gorgeous. With a bit of TLC that could br amazing. Those huge rooms! I'd also create a proper garden outside.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 19/02/2025 08:40

I walked past the house in Spitalfields yesterday. Beautiful houses.

Overrated, the sand is a nightmare!

Would like to live to have a second home in Marylebone although I don’t know much about the area really.

Having lived in a Victorian terrace for over 20 years, my advice is - don’t. They are a sponge for money. Long thin houses where the rooms don’t flow very well. Huge windows, draughty.

Ariela · 19/02/2025 09:56

Middle of Henley with parking, café downstairs. Right in the town centre. River views. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/145437383#/?channel=RES_BUY

Or this, with parking and a swimming pool, v short walk into town. A quieter area.

Or Vicar of Dibley land https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/152222333#/floorplan?activePlan=1&channel=RES_BUY

It’s wigan, area might be ok, not sure but opportunities for your children aren’t great.
Just generally depressing with dismal town centre.

I'd move back to where I grew up (this is literally up the road from my mum). Very much a pipe dream unless I win the lottery https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/158234948
