Jeeez, these have gone up haven't they?! Last time it was about £700 in total - now, 12 years later - £1300!!😫

Is this just for selling? My quotes are for around £3000 to buy and sell.

mitogoshigg · 18/02/2025 13:57

Look online, I paid £500 3 years ago

MinnieMountain · 18/02/2025 13:59

What’s the difference in the price of the property and the property type between your transaction 3 years and now?

MelodyJ · 18/02/2025 15:47

I'm in the process of buying, and am quoted £2-2.5K

BooomShakeTheRoom · 18/02/2025 15:49

We’ve just sold and purchased - it turned into a very complicated purchase with lots of solicitor input and advice. It was money well spent for us and I’m sure they made a loss in our case.

I don’t think it’s much if you have a decent solicitor. They charge more than that for removals where I live!

sweetpickle2 · 18/02/2025 15:51

I don't think (not even) doubling in over a decade is too bad. But like others have said, it will depend on the type of property

Mildura · 18/02/2025 15:57

£1300 seems incredibly cheap!

Spirallingdownwards · 18/02/2025 16:05

And still a bargain considering the amount of work and the protection their personal Indemnity Insurance gives you compared to the rip off fees estate agents charge but noone ever seems half as bothered by.

tangobravo · 18/02/2025 16:06

Christ I know - £1700 for our sale and £1800 for our purchase! Estate agent fees similar as are the moving costs

Fibrous · 18/02/2025 16:22

I paid more than that and didn't even move as the chain collapsed and we didn't find anywhere else.

pilates · 18/02/2025 16:29

Everything has gone up and compared to what the agents get I don’t think it’s a lot. Public indemnity and taxes have increased so it has to come from somewhere. What are you doing buying or selling also leasehold properties are more expensive plus the factor of price?

Fibrous · 18/02/2025 16:22

Even better one of those who thinks their solicitor should work for free🙄

Ladyflip · 18/02/2025 16:32

Everyone has to make a living! It's probably not even likely they're making a profit on that unless they've got lots of non qualified members of staff operating a computer system overseen by one qualified solicitor.

Ladyflip · 18/02/2025 16:33

Ps have you been to the dentist lately because their fees have gone up in 12 years too Hmm

Mercurial123 · 18/02/2025 16:35

It's a perfectly reasonable quote.

I didn't expect them to work for free, it's not their fault the chain collapsed. I can still feel sore about it, though.

friendlycat · 18/02/2025 16:41

That sounds very cheap. How much is the property worth?

No, just for buying.

It was 12 years ago. The house I bought with my then partner was £232k and I went to an online conveyancer. I had a look today - bearing in mind this is purchase only (the man and me broke up years ago and I've rented since) and I used a few comparison websites and it was still extortionate, imo.

The house I'm buying now is £135k.

It does sound about right tbh. Don’t go for a cheap online conveyancing company. Is it a personal recommendation and have they got good trust pilot reviews?

God that's awful. I'm so sorry!

@pilates " also leasehold properties are more expensive plus the factor of price?" Yeah, it's leasehold. I hope to buy the freehold on it in time.

@Ladyflip Funny you should ask that because no, I haven't - but I do have an appt tomorrow as it's taken me years to find one - literally, YEARS. :( I appreciate that you were being facetious, it was just funny as that really is the case 😂

Yeah, it is. I did a google search after drawing breath when I was quoted and it was even more, so I've gone with the personal recommendation. Jesus. It is clearly an area of law I should get into! 😂

Check what quotes include as well. One solicitor might say a larger quote but they include all the bank fees, search fees etc in the headline quote, but another will say £600 and then add all those things on top.

MinnieMountain · 18/02/2025 20:00

It really isn’t an area of law where you can make lots of money OP. And the caseloads can be horrendous. That’s why I audit other fee earners’ files now.

AllTheChaos · 18/02/2025 20:02

That seems really good! Mine was about £3,000
