Can anyone tell me what product I am looking for?

I have a fireplace which has black metal inserts on both sides of the fire. There is an raised design on these, like Rennie Mackintosh roses.

The black now seems flat to me, so I was thinking of zhouzhing them up by dabbing them with something that would give a gentle bronze/gold highlight in places. Basically picking out some raised bits.

Can anyone tell me what on earth I am searching for? Is it a cream, does such a product exist? I don't want to spray paint them in case I make a mess, and it's not metal cleaner that I need either.

Any suggestions?

Annie Sloane has paste in metallics that is exactly what you need.

Gold leaf or would that be too bold for the impact you’re looking for?

I think it's rub and buff cream you need

Check that it hasn't been painted. Can you post an image?

If you use the fire you might need to check that it's non flammable.

Thanks for the suggestions so far - I couldn't think of how to search it, got a lot of bronzing make-up results!

Good point about flammability.

I will have a go with your suggestions and see what might fit the bill.
