Dulux Light & Space Coastal Glow - Have you used it?

Just that really. I have a NE/N facing living room that looks very cool and dull. Currently painted magnolia (from before I moved in) and brilliant white ceiling (looks grey in the daylight). I need to redecorate and have looked at this paint. If you have used it, could you advise please and share photos if you can?

Is it difficult to apply?
Does it make a difference in the feel of the room?
Is Coastal Glow a cream colour or just a creamy white?
Does it read warm or cool?

I just want something as a neutral backdrop but as I have an attic flat with sloping ceilings, I need to get it right because of all the shadows the sloping walls create.

Not feeling very congident and a bit overwhelmed by all the whites and creams! 🫣😵‍💫

I have not used coastal glow but I have used light and space lunar falls on a very dark hallway that was painted magnolia before. The difference in light was quite unbelievable to be honest. I think the paint has little reflective particles in but honestly so much lighter and brighter.

The paint was as easy to use as any other Dulux paint.

I can't remember what colour we used but similarly it was an amazing difference. Definitely one of those where you can't really believe it can be going to work and then it does.

BetweenStars · 18/02/2025 08:07

We used Dulux Jasmine Shimmer Light & Space for our dark hallway, worked a treat.

Myblueclematis · 18/02/2025 08:24

I've used Light and Space several times, my bedroom and dining room are both done in that paint, different colours though.

My bedroom is Lunar Falls, I think the dining room is Dawn Frost.

Have also used L&S and it made a real difference.

ThunderFog · 18/02/2025 11:49

I saw Light and Space in a hotel room years ago, and it looked so good I asked at the desk what it was. I have since used it in three houses. My current hall is half DuluxL&S, half Dulux "hints" (I think that's what they call it). After 10 years, the hint needs redoing, the L&S still looks beautiful. i am doing it all again in new colourway, but will absolutely be using L&S for the dark corridor, maybe all of it. It is creamy smooth and covers better as if there is more pigment in the emulsion.
<Stands and admires the blank walls of the living room - why cover up such lovely paint with pictures?>

That sounds amazing! What colour did the Lunar Falls turn out? I looked at it and couldn't decide if it was pale lemon or cream?

@ThunderFog That sounds brilliant esp as I will have to do the painting (and moving of furniture) myself so I am looking for something that will wear well. You have given me cinfidence that this is the right paint range. Now just for the shade...

To be honest at the time Dulux had just released the range so there weren’t many colours to choose from, this was the closest colour to cream at the time. It’s a yellow tone and I think it does have a hint of green in it. I would choose a different colour now that is closer to cream if that makes sense but there wasn’t the same choice then.

I've used L&S Coastal Glow here and in a previous house, both times on hall/stairs/landing, as well s other L&S colours in other places. ('Absolute White' L&S on the ceilings, which is less 'someone's Mum is using Persil' than Brilliant White, which is too harsh and blueish for my taste, the L&S AW actually reflects more light but looks nicer to me.)
L&S is as easy to put on as any other emulsion. I usually use the trade version, which is thicker, but did have to use the consumer one during lockdown. Just a bit thinner, otherwise the same.
Coastal Glow is a warm but light cream, at the peachy end of white. Takes light beautifully IMO and L&S makes any room lighter. I used it as a substitute for a similar colour in ordinary Dulux emulsion in the first house, it made the space much lighter and fresher. I liked it enough to use the same here. Some decorators say L&S is expensive (it is) and makes no difference, I think it does, and colour and light is my business. I'm careful with money and I think it's well worth it.
Current hall/stairs/landing is lit with North light. This has played havoc with other paints on walls in the same light, which go greener to an alarming extent than any chart, but CG reads true to the chart, and keeps the space warm, not picking up the blue/green cast. Tester kits are your friend, though.
There are other L&S colours that are lighter. L&S Desert Wind I have used in another room, South facing with skylights, where I wanted more of a tinted white. That's definitely lighter than Coastal Glow, but looks great too. I tried an even lighter L&S in there, forget the name, but it just looked chalky, so went for the Desert Wind.

ValerieDoonican · 18/02/2025 23:13

Just to add I like these paints too but find they have a slightly rough finish that makes them quite hard to clean, so I wouldn't use again in a kitchen.

Great summary, I used in in a large hallway with vaulted stair are and little direct light ans it created a beautiful feel. The only comment I had is it is difficult to touch up as the finished seems to show overpainting more than I’d like.

ThunderFog · 19/02/2025 07:40

I have got Jasmine Shimmer S&L in my dark corridor and Blossom White vinyl matt in my bright stairwell. The join shows the difference between the two types of paint. They are very similar colours but the S&L paint is a thicker layer and more opaque.

GrazeConcern · 19/02/2025 07:42

I used coastal glow in my north facing lounge and don’t like it - way too yellow for my taste. Happy with the actual paint effect though.

Minimilia · 24/02/2025 18:00

I’ve used L&S Coastal Glow in a small, north facing living room and I really liked the effect, it was cosy but light.
I’ve also used L&S Morning Light in a north facing bedroom, and that looked lovely too, not quite as warm as the Coastal Glow, but really effective in a small, dark space.

One word of caution on light and space in one room with older plaster it kind of crinkled after about 6 months - like surface cracks in a china cup.

Was very strange and eventually had to paint over it.

Was fine in other rooms.
