Finding a rental property

Does anyone have any tips for finding a rental property. I need to find somewhere for short term rent as a stop gap between selling and buying a house. Every time I contact a rental agent they are quite abrupt and usually just tell me to go on their mailing list, which I already am.

I have only a few weeks left to find one before I need to leave where I am and so now becoming a little worried. So any advice anyone could give would be appreciated.

Spare room ?

Have you looked at open rent?

Clariana · 16/02/2025 18:38

It depends how short term you mean? Any normal rental will be for a minimum of 6 months, so if it is shorter than that you will need to look at Airbnb or similar, or maybe out of season holiday rentals.

Why would landlords and letting agents want a short term let? It's too much hassle.

You need to look at Airbnb on a longer let.

Hotel, Airbnb, holiday let.

If it's just for a short period, regular residential landlords won't be interested unless you offer at least 50% over what they're asking. And even then, probably not.

I found short lets on open rent. In the end I've gone via an estate agent for a 6 month rent.

I moved into an air BnB when in this situation

I'd second Airbnb. A friend did this between tenancies, and I've let out my hol home for longer lets too in the past. Just send a message to bnbs you like the look of and ask them if they would consider you

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve tried some on open rent but as you say they want longer than short term.
I’ll have a look at Airbnb and see if I can find anything 🤞

You could try putting a message on your local facebook page. People do that sometimes where we live.

Everyone I've known in your position has stored furniture and moved into holiday accommodation. One friend stayed in three different ones as his onward purchase was a probate and took so long! Hopefully this time of year you'll be OK but if you get to easter there may be a bit of hopping to be done .
