Calamine/vert de tere or Parma grey?

Currently decorating my daughter’s bedroom. Her only request is that the walls are pink. The room is a large, south facing bedroom. It has a large window and high, Victorian ceilings. It could look great - as long as I get it right!
we are in the process of having some fitted wardrobes with a chest of drawers made. I need to decide on colours for the wardrobes to be sprayed…I had been thinking setting plaster and then the wardrobes/woodwork/dado rail in vert de terre. I’ve gone more keen on blue now - thinking Parma grey for the wardrobes/woodwork and maybe calamine on the walls? Or little greene Dorchester pink maybe? I’m getting a bit overwhelmed with the decision. Has anyone tried any of these colour combos and has any advice or opinions? Or even another suggestion (as long as the walls are pink!)
thanks!

I'm not too keen on that particular shade of green to go with the pinks, I don't think it contrasts or matches enough. My daughter wanted pastels in her room, in particular lilac, I ended up buying small pots from a crown decorating store (if U have one locally) they can mix up any colours you like and sell them in mini pots for around £4, best money I spent as I went with different colours to what I originally thought would look good :)

How old is she? When my DD was 5 she was adamant she wanted pink walls. Now she is 9 and for the last 2 years has hated pink and asked to change the walls (we have given in and are repainting soon).

Spray painted woodwork is hard to change, so whatever you choose, make sure it will go with any future wall colour not just this pink. All my DD’s woodwork is white.

I love green and pink, but rarely pair them; and I don’t think an expanse of both would work that well. What about using a neutral or stone colour on the wardrobes, like pointing or stirabout, and then some bits of green with cushions, a chair or plants. More cool and will age better with her. Good selection of inspo pictures on the F&B website.

@minipie yes - she is 3.5 and I think wants pink walls because her 5 year old sister wants pink walls. I don’t really mind and happy to think I might be redecorating in a few years…that’s why the woodwork/wardrobes aren’t going to be pink. Do you think wardrobes would be very difficult to change?

@BestStoredInAFridge i do love this colour - and I love the idea of it with pomona…I’ve almost got too many tester pots on the go now!

Yes, the built in wardrobes and chest of drawers will be difficult to change colour in future, much more so than the walls. Getting someone in to respray in situ needs a spray specialist and is a lot more costly, also more disruptive as everything will need to be emptied and the carpet/furniture etc taped off and protected against spray. You could have it hand painted but then you don’t get the benefit of the spray finish (hand painted chips more easily on moving parts) and it’s still fiddly to hand paint wardrobes and drawers due to all the little bits that need to be covered and need to empty them.

I would highly recommend choosing a wardrobe colour you are confident will work forever whatever the wall colour - doesn’t have to be white but something neutral. White has the extra benefit that lots of kids’ furniture comes in white.

@minipie hmmm yes I know what you mean, although I’m not too keen on white/cream joinery look. I think the two colours will add something extra to the room. Although very difficult to choose and more pressure to get it right! I think maybe Parma grey looks more mature which is why I started favouring that over the green…

Have a look at the Coat pink tester set op.

RoamingGnome · 09/02/2025 16:53

Grey is already looking dated. Any woodwork I could always keep white or cream - much easier to touch up any chips and will go with any wall colour. I suspect the damp plaster pink will also go out of fashion quite quickly, but I guess a toddler won't care!

minipie · 09/02/2025 19:05

Parma grey is lovely but it’s almost blue rather than grey, so will restrict future choices somewhat.

I’d go for a warm off white.

Sourisblanche · 09/02/2025 19:12

We did one of the FB pinks on the walls with off white/cream woodwork and furniture for our dd’s. You’ll be amazed how fast the pink years go by and it was much easier to change the walls back to neutral as they grew up and I was glad in the end that we hadn’t gone for a colour on the furniture.

Haha. I clicked on this without looking at the subject and thought it was the baby name thread.
