Creative thinking needed for old conservatory

Looking for clever ideas and inspiration. I would love to have an open plan kitchen/diner but don't have the money to build an extension. Wondering if there is anything creative and clever we could do with the current conservatory?

Don’t open it up to the rest of the house…you’ll freeze in winter…and spring and autumn!

Unsure what you mean but building regs will require you to have a thermal break and so if you are proposing knowing through to an old conservatory to make a bigger room that is likely to be difficult/impossible

Trying to add photos but cant see the option :(

You can't add photos on here at the moment but you can link to an online plan.

There is a conservatory i. The new house we are buying i saw lots of companies that do a "conservatory" conversion . No idea on costs through but they look pretty cool !
We had a concept design drawn out from
Peek home and they seem to think it would cost around 15k to put a roof and brick one of the walls
Look at hub home on instagram or eurocell is another one that does that

You can certainly improve the insulation on a conservatory and on many conservatories you can add a roof (although this will significantly affect the light in the room it links to).

What you can't do easily is knock through to make one large room since building regs require a thermal break (i.e. doors)

We have a conservatory off our kitchen,it's north facing but because it's a bungalow, light, sun goes over the top.. The Government Planning Portal says, you have to build with 50%, transparent or opaque, you aren't supposed to have full brick walls, you can now have permanent heating (DH added 2 rads on the central heating system) an exterior grade door, you could use double doors..our neighbours had a solid roof, even on a mid summer day, they have lights on. We have our dining table out there. It's used daily.

I made mine into a plant-filled, instagramable greenhouse and it's a lovely space to sit.

Miranda1723 any chance of a picture! Mine is also completely filled with plants in winter. Poster, can you do a diagram.

MNHQ have temporarily suspended posting photos after that sicko spammed the site with upsetting photos.

MulberryPeony · 09/02/2025 09:35
