Closing up doorway and knocking out doorway

Hi,

I'm currently waiting for my new house to complete, we have plans of knocking a door out and filling another in. How difficult is this job? If I needed a ‘handyman’ what profession am I looking for. Any advice fully welcome

You might want to get this moved to property/diy as I’m presuming it’s not active measures to keep your work colleagues out 😄

We've moved this thread over to our Property/DIY topic for the OP.

You likely need a builder. Is the wall for the new door a supporting wall, as if so may need extra support if you make a hole in it? To block up the existing door you need to knock the frame out, make good the wall (materials dependent on what existing wall made of, plaster it and do skirting to match, and then decorate/ match the flooring up. Quite often you can find builders who like flexible little jobs to fill in delays on bigger jobs

As LaPalmaLlama said, just a builder should be fine. They should be able to work out if it’s a supporting wall or not. We’ve had a builder fill a doorway in, create a new doorway, and slightly move another doorway. All no problem at all.
