Buyers pushing for early completion

Or house buyers are first time buyers, they want to take advantage of the property tax discount which expires on 1 April. We accepted this condition when agreed the sale, and were planning to complete no later than 31 March.
Due to winter season and illnesses we did not manage to find a suitable house to move into - until last weekend, and agreed the purchase of the property whose sale just fell through. We are hoping to complete the purchase by the end of March or face renting, which would mean moving twice and an extreme upheaval at our nearly retirement age.
We have not even exchanged contracts, but our buyers now insist on completion date 5 March. We explained that we need to exchange contracts ASAP to secure a rental property, and they replied that they will if we agree the completion on 21st March.
Whilst we understand that they want a buffer, that extra 7-10 days might make a big difference to us as we might complete our purchase in time to avoid renting.
Should we agree to this date or insist on a week later? How binding is the agreement on the moving date that far ahead? Can it be moved nearer the time to suit us?
The FTB are renting at the moment, and saying they need to give a notice. Our seller is in the process of buying as well but does not know the timescale yet.
Any ideas how to get around deadlines and moving twice? We are not very well but desperately need to move, so cancelling the sale is out of question.

How did it all go??

We were due to complete 31st March but the seller went AWOL. The appeared the next morning, confused and said well I confirmed via email on Sunday, why are you harassing me! Denied ever knowing he had to be available on the day

I don't quite understand what happened with your seller? Did you complete in the end?

How did it all end up with us? In the end, we agreed and completed on 28th March. We moved over 26th and 27th, and cleaned on 28th. We were very lucky to find removals that were available for those dates, and a rental house as well. The buyers came in on 28th and revealed that they were moving in on 31st and 1st. After all that fuss and stress they put us through insisting we move out asap!!!
We managed to find a rental house that we moved into on 27th. Not a bungalow that we needed, but a house with a bedroom downstairs for my sick hubby. We found an awful lot of issues with it, the house was not ready for occupancy as the renovation has not been completed.
It has been incredibly stressful and exhausting. I felt like a single mum with a baby who could only rely on herself. The baby was my sick husband. We only managed to unpack bare necessities due to constantly dealing with contractors fixing the house. Still waiting for the phone line to get connected to the property and having no Internet, which is another blow, the Openreach keeps cancelling appointments.
Desperately need a holiday just to get away from it all...

Sounds difficult OP. Are you getting a chance to look for anywhere to buy if that's your plan?
