Redoing a 5 year olds bedroom - small single, space saving ideas wanted

Hi all, I've been wanting to upgrade my 5 year old daughters bedroom. She has a small single bedroom (one up from a box room really). Ideally I don't want to redo paint, or replace the bed (standard single, she'd fall out of a cabin bed), but I'm open to anymore ideas on how to create a nice space for her to be in, that feels spacious and that she will want to spend time in. What would you do?

When dc was little I did actually have a bed made to fit the space better (you can buy mattresses made to measure). However the biggest thing (that provided floor space) was to make an opening into the old airing cupboard (which was just outside the bedroom) and make it into a wardrobe. So a combination of under bed storage and the wardrobe meant nothing else was needed.

Update: Husband has said he would be happy changing the bed!

We also got a bed made for ds box room so that it could go along the shortest wall in the room and maximise floor space. It's an automan bed, plenty storage underneath. A standard single mattress still fits fine, it's just a couple of inches shorter to accommodate skirting boards.

Shelves on the walls and slimline desk. TV on the wall too and tall thin shelving unit.

We tried a cabin bed but it dominated the room and wasn't practical at all for our needs.

You can get low cabins, wardrobe one end, every on 2 walls. Our last house DD bedroom was 6x 7ft.

Check out IKEA for beds with drawers under, they have a few that might be suitable. Ottoman beds are good but best for storing things that don't need to be accessed constantly.

We had a bed from Ikea with 2 big drawers underneath. It was very heavy but there wasn't room for a wardrobe so clothes had to go in there.

High up shelving for things not used often or for decoration.

A large mirror brings in light.

All amazing ideas, thank you. We definitely will think about a slim line desk, new shelving, and a bed with drawers in it, and possibly a small wardrobe. The key is going to be making it a space that works for her as she grows up, and one that, despite its size, she wants to spend time in. The poor kid is absolutely adored by her rough and tumble little brother, and he follows her everywhere, jumps on her and just wants to play with her all the time, so she needs a bit of peace and quiet sometimes!!

I'm sure she'll love it OP. Perhaps some pics on the walls if you don't want to repaint. Some nice cushions and fairy lights. Make it a lovely cosy space and the size won't matter... the fact it's all hers will 😊
