Where would you place a freestanding washing machine in this kitchen and why?
Thank you!

Do you also have a dishwasher? (that would influence my response)

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 31/01/2025 17:20

1 because I’d want 2 to have all the things I might need for cooking.

1 - so it doesn’t wobble the hob when cooking and I can ask dc to empty it without them being under my feet when cooking.

shellyleppard · 31/01/2025 17:21

definitely one because of the plumbing.....

Maraschina · 31/01/2025 17:24

In 1, because I am right handed, so I would rinse a plate and put it in the dishwasher located at 2 .

NeverDropYourMooncup · 31/01/2025 17:24

If you picked 2, that would mean banging your shins and not being able to open the freezer door fully when somebody else is loading the dishwasher at 1.

The washing machine door wouldn't get in the way nearly as much at 1.

  1. Ive had a washing machine under the drainer before and it worked well.

1 because it is further away (just from the cooker and therefore the most likely prep area for fresh food). Dirty laundry is going to be unhygenic (outdoor clothes, bodily fluids in underear and so on) so if you can I'd avoid having it in the kitchen at all. If you can't then, you will be inevitably having days when stuff gets dumped on the floor before putting into the machine so the furthest away from the most 'hygene sensitive areas' (food handling and prep before serving) the better.
