New kitchen - how much?

Sunnyside4 · 28/01/2025 15:15

Hopefully we'll be having a new kitchen later in the year.

Can anyone tell me how much they've spent on one recently (included fitting) and what it included. ie how many cupboards, how many integrated items like cooker, fridge/freezer. Did it includes tiles and flooring? What it from an independent high spec company, Howdens or somewhere likes Wickes?

£10k without fitting. Just a fridge we had other appliances.

sometimesmovingforwards · 28/01/2025 19:35

£27k all in.

TeenLifeMum · 28/01/2025 19:36

£23k with some plaster work, painting but no tiles and no flooring. That was kitchen and utility plus 2 ovens, a hob, extractor fan, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Plus 2 sinks. Included quartz worktop.

BuoyOhBuoy · 28/01/2025 19:38

I think people need to say where the kitchen is from.
A kitchen from IKEA is going to cost a lot less than a bespoke one from some high street kitchen company which is made completely from wood.

Witchywoo41 · 28/01/2025 19:40

in 2022 I paid around 6k, I used a kitchen fitter off check a trade and he sourced the kitchen. It included a double Belfast sink, dishwasher, American style fridge, induction hob and electric oven. Set of drawers, sink unit, 4 double base units, 5 floor to ceiling units and 2 wall units, solid wood worktops and breakfast bar. The kitchen is fab and still looks brand new. I’m in the northeast.

CatStoleMyChocolate · 28/01/2025 19:57

I think we spent about £22k on a decent sized kitchen (18 units/cupboards - 3 floor to ceiling, 2 corner cupboards with pull-outs, 4 wall
cupboards, 9 base units including the bin, plus dishwasher door) and small utility (3 wall cupboards, 2 wine racks, 3 base cupboards) in 2022.

That included all the units (DIY Kitchens), appliances (online, fridge-freezer, induction hob, double oven - we kept the dishwasher and washing machine), quartz worktops (local supplier), two sinks and taps (DIY Kitchens), Amtico flooring, and the cost of fitting. It didn’t include any plastering or decorating as it was a new space (extension). We would have spent about £8k more if we’d got the kitchen from Howdens!

We could have done it for less by choosing cheaper flooring and worktops, and also by not getting fancy corner cupboards with pull-outs, but those things made a huge difference to the look and functionality of the kitchen.

This sounds really similar to what we will be going for, also planning on using DIY. Can I ask which range you went for? I am looking at the inframe one at the moment but don't know if it's worth the extra £. Did you do your own design?

annlee3817 · 28/01/2025 20:13

We haven't done ours yet, but our kitchen was quoted for approx 18 cupboards in total, worktop, new basin and sink, extras like pull outs in the cupboards, was approx ,£7k with the units fully built, that was wren kitchens and they said labour would be at least another £5 - £7k

We are planning on getting it through DIY kitchens and fitting ourselves as luckily my dad used to be in the trade. You can get quotes from local fitters and buy the kitchen yourselves. Units are cheaper if flat packed, but then costs more to build it all up.

I've costed ours out with DIY kitchens using their online planner and it comes to approx £5k at the moment, just got to factor in all the bits and bobs on top and tiles, flooring etc, hoping we can do it all for £7k

RIPVPROG · 28/01/2025 20:48

30k all in , back to brick ,replaster ,floor levelling, tiling, paint, move gas, move electrical points, units, oak worktops, light fittings , range cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher , washing machine . Kitchen is about 6m by 3.5m so not big, but high ceilings and units to the ceiling on one side and just bottom units on the other side a fair few units in total, we bought the appliances ourselves, and the tiles but have a builder project managing and getting an the needed trades in, kitchen is Howdens

ETA My cooker was nearly 2k 🫣 so it definitely can be done cheaper. I've just waited a very long time for this kitchen

Aposterhasnoname · 28/01/2025 20:54

25k, ten cupboards, quartz worktop and splashback, integrated washer dryer, dishwasher, oven, hob, hood and fridge freezer. Includes flooring, lighting, fitting and decorating, literally everything, right down to hanging the clock on the wall as a finishing touch. Also includes a new consumer unit as the old wasn’t up to running the induction hob. Bought from magnet and used the fitter that they would have sent, but arranged it privately with him.

Who supplied your kitchen @Witchywoo41?

I'm looking for a new kitchen in the NE and it's so hard!

Mrsmch123 · 28/01/2025 20:59

Ours was 10k.
12 cupboards, 3 drawers, oven/hob and hood
Quartz worktop
Sink
This included installation and an electrician for new sockets.

Oceangrey · 28/01/2025 21:02

Not complete yet, but around £15k for bespoke inframe cabinets plus shelves and some other bits. That doesn't include worktop, appliances or fitting.

Would you mind if I PM'd you to get info? I'm also NE and need a new kitchen.

How have Ikea been? I've heard SO many horror stories.

OnTheBoardwalk · 28/01/2025 21:22

£15k about 5 years ago for a medium size kitchen. Yes you can do cheaper but I wanted less hassle

i went with Wickes and the firm fitting it said they were the hardest firm to get on their books with as they had very high standards

time of fitting boss man had pancreatitis. Rather than cancel his son and others did the job not a problem. At the end of job however there were loads of snags and annoying things, holes back of cupboards, kitchen light in new ceiling not working etc

tried to get firm to sort out and he was a complete an absolute arse, prob combination of being ill and knowing he wasn’t on the job. started getting aggressive

Wickes were absolutely fantastic and had general manager at my house the next day and arranged team at my house who couldn’t leave until I was happy

EasterIssland · 28/01/2025 22:30

I think mine will be around 23 after the latest changes. 1 larder , 3x2 drawers (it’s got hidden drawers) , 1 breakfast bar and 2 corner cabinets + 7 appliances + 1 quooker and 2 tanks. It includes as well silestone quartz and fitting

magnet quoted me 18k for a more basic one

we are looking at around 34k for all included but we are also rewiring the whole house

mjf981 · 29/01/2025 04:16

I'm in Sydney so unlikely to be helpful, but just out of interest...

I just redid the kitchen in my flat. Smallish - 3 * 3sqm but including a waterfall edge and breakfast bar. I sourced all trades myself. Replaced cabinets doors, hinges, hardware, quartz countertop, backsplash, sick, oven and stove top. Including all the above - the equivalent of about 6500 pounds.

Dearg · 29/01/2025 11:47

I am looking at about £25k. 17 units including fridge and oven towers, 2 sets of drawer, double sink, worktop, tile, new appliances ( 2 ovens, tall fridge/ freezer, hood, hob, dishwasher) , new radiators, new LVT floor, tiles and painting.

Units from Howdens. Appliances from AO, local tradespeople. There may be extras when it comes to it.

Don't use them! We had an Ikea kitchen fitted 6 years ago and one of the sets of top cupboards fell off the wall recently. It wasn't fitted properly. the quality of the rest of the build isn't great to be honest either

Fitted?!

Can you share their details? (Also in the north east)

We’re in the process of renovating our new home and have just been quoted £20k for the new kitchen - this doesn’t include the extensive building work required though - that’s another £30k on top but we’ve gone for top spec high finish.
Howdens is good I found. Magnet not so much.

Hi, we went for the Linwood as I wanted solid wood, painted, and it’s worn well - a few chips but as we have youngish DCs, it’s only to be expected. We could definitely have done it for less but we seem to have expensive taste in units! We really liked their pan drawers and also have a couple of expensive but very handy Le Mans corner cupboards.

CatStoleMyChocolate · 30/01/2025 21:39

Sorry, just seen you asked about design - we did but in hindsight I wish I’d used a designer - I would have gone with Karen from OnePlan, who is also an admin on the DIY Kitchens Facebook page and super helpful. She got a lot of recommendations on here as well. I made a couple of mistakes in relation to ceiling height, which probably cost about what her fee would have been, as the one downside of DIY Kitchens is that you can’t swap units if they don’t fit (which you can with Howdens).
